Decided to play with lots of Scarlets the other week. The ones people don't get out much.

Well this first one is Jeanne's and she always comes out to play with Jeanne. She doesn't play well with others so she's all alone.

These two boys are also Jeanne and Johns. They get out quite often to hang out together since they are in loveeee with each other.

Man, that is awesome! I love all that room, that's great! Love it love it! Are those your outdoor flights? If so, what is the netting type stuff you are using for the roof? Looks like it works well, ever have issues with them trying to chew through it?

That's awesome. I keep debating doing something like that for Willow. Problem is she'd only be able to use it 1/2 the year here, and I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be leaving her out there.

Totally understand the reticence there. I live in a fairly nice area from a crime/etc standpoint, but I still think I want to set up a surveillance system before I set up my outdoor aviaries. I live in suburbia also though, so I don't get the privacy factor of living in the woods a bit. Hell, my yard only has 1 tree haha.

I'm the opposite... I live in rural country, away from the road on an 11 acre lot. I'm more worried about weather and predators. Somebody would have to be pretty stupid to be trespassing on my property, between my brothers and our German shepherds, lol

Haha yeah, I can see actual predators being an issue in the sticks. About the worse I have to worry about are the groundhogs and raccoons living in the power line culvert behind our house.

You don't think the dogs would be enough of a deterrent for anything that would be willing to mess with a U2?

Primarily it's birds of prey and small mammals I worry about. Weasels/fishers/mink. We have a resident Falcon and plenty of hawks and eagles around as well. Dogs are good for large (predatory) mammals and people. Not much else.

Sounds like you need to make some Scareeagles!

Don't think it would work.... the falcon follows us around like a pet when we're mowing, lol, literally 10-20 feet behind the mower, picking up all the critter casualties, usually vermin.

My big worry is about avian diseases/parasites from wild birds.
I've Googled the topic enough to know it is entirely possible, but I don't know how probable it is. Avian TB is especially scary since it can be passed to people.

A canary breeder I knew in New Mexico kept a canary aviary outdoors. They contracted something (avian pox, I believe?) and they all died.

I've never heard of parrot flocks meeting the same end, so maybe it's very unlikely.
