Military Problems and training questions

:green1: I have a few questions?? I have been around large birds all my life and I have just got around to purchasing my first Macaw. He is a Military and his name is Tommy. I am not sure of his age he was a Catholic priest's bird and the priest past away. The lady from the church that got didn't know anything about him and she could't handle him. I brought him home and I have worked with him and he will let me rub his back and his head sometimes his beak. I let him out of cage and he immediate goes to the top of the cage. I have to keep on him to finally get him to step up on my arm. When i get him on my arm he will set there for a few but then he starts biting. When i try to get him back in the cage he lights me up. He bites me hard. I am just trying to get him to quit climbing on the cage i guess its a bad habit that the priest let him do. He also don't like my hand in the cage when he is in there he gets mad. I have to get him out first before I can clean up. I am just wondering how i can break his habits and his biting. I know he has to trust me a little to let pet his head and back and all under his wings. Please any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for any help. :green1:

How long have you had him. These things take time.

Firstly welcome to the forum! :D

Can you perhaps explain how big the cage is? How much out of cage time do you give him? Is his wings clipped? What have you done so far to earn his trust? Does he take treats from your hand?

Here is a website that is all about biting and how to fix the problem. ;)
