Why would you need to talk on the phone when you have a perfectly good macaw sitting there? Don't you see me? I can talk to you! Listen: SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM isn't that fantastic? Why are you going in the closet and closing the door? Didn't you hear me talking? Let me do it louder so you can hear: SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM where are you going?

Thanks for the smile!!! And, a daily happening that I can truly relate too!!!

Oh, dear, yes. I go outside to talk on the phone. There's no other way.

On a similar note i recently bought an Amazon Echo (if you don't know what it is google it,its amazing) Any way for those of you that know what it is, boy, do my 3 Macs make using it a challenge. When they hear me say "Alexa" its time to start screaming. Now I'm waiting for the day they start saying "Alexa, buy bird toy from Amazon". It is great though i use to control their music and the lights in the bird room.

You all have it wrong! Your baby sees your distress, obvious, you are talking to your toys! He is trying to rescue you the best way he can!

Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
I saw the title and the poster, and immediatly knew I was going to get a good GUS post. I am still chuckling as I type. We get a huge number of sales calls here ( comes from having a good credit rating?), and while Salty dosen't scream, he does like to Amazon chatter/natter at the phone. Guess who answers the phone if we dont recognize the number? If Ed McMann ever calls to tell us we won the Readers Digest Sweepstakes, Salty is gonna be one wealthy bird! Thank you for the, laugh.

I wonder if he thinks the phone is a little black bird that is allowed on the shoulder of HIS humans.

Or a bunch of Ozzie Osbourne CDs show up in the UPS truck? Probably puts the computers into a frenzy trying to translate the yelling.

Lots of parrots, most of them rescues
It's funny :) I must be the luckiest macaw mommy in the world. The only real problem I have is I can't talk in the phone with the phone to my head. If I put it on speaker, I guess they feel included. However if I try to talk with it against my head, Trudi will try to squeeze herself in between me and the phone. Noone is allowed that close to mommys head but her (or the older macaws, because they will bite her if she tries to infringe on their cuddle time).

I do however have a screaming contest in the morning, when I wake, as they believe the one that screams the loudest, will get their morning cuddles first

I figured it out! Gus doesn't mind the phone at all. He doesn't like talking that excludes him. I answer the phone and say "Hi, Doctor X, thank you for returning my call! I'm using this voice because if I pretend I'm talking to our bird, he won't start screaming" in my best who's-a-good-parrot voice. Usually I can walk out of the room then and no screaming will ensue. He's used to me walking around the house singing and talking to him. But answer the phone normally? Head goes up...eye locks in ... runs to edge of cage....SCREAM SCREAM SCREAM repeat. If I'm on the phone with someone who knows the deal, I can pretend I'm talking to Gus and the screaming will stop. If it's a stranger, I run out of the room because they sometimes think I'm just had a home invasion and should they call 911...
