Normal Baby Behavior?

Hi Everyone;
First off, I know Macaws can and are very loud. I accept that but is it normal for a 9 week old baby to squak all day? He is in the same room with us so he can see us. We do not hold him constantly but even when we do he still squaks. I hold him and pet him and he squaks. Is this normal???
He has toys but is not yet interested. Is occasionaly picking at other foods. Am I doing something wrong, or is there something wrong with him.

I suggest you have your baby seen by an avian vet ASAP. Constant whining could be due to a crop infection. Baby could be hurting or due to crop infection he feels constantly hungry and does not get relief from food. Is baby in a brooder or cage? He may be cold.

As GC stated, and I would also suggest a brooder, you can make your own very easily, also placing the baby in a dark or dimly lit area for uninteruted rest time throughout the day should help as well, if the bird is off in any way, eating, defecating ect. a vet check may very well be in order

It appears I have hit on something here. I put him in his cage a little while ago with his toys and food to pick at....he is being quiet and playing with stuff. Go figure.
How much cage time vs out time do they need? I also put vet wrap on his training perch which was suggested elsewhere and that has helped with his grasping ability.
I will call the vet tomorrow and see about a well check.

Hi Cindy, out of cage time is important, as is rest time and play/exploring cage time, I would suggest after feedings the baby be placed down for nap time for a couple of hours, keeping him warm( helps with the digestion process) and comfy, you can then try and divide the awake time with out of cage (socializing) time and in cage ( play/exploring) time, depending on how well he's perching you can place a few perches at different heights, low and medium, so he can used to climbing, if he's prone to falling alot you may want to place a towel on the bottom to reduce chance of injury, now is also a good time to place different foods for him to try, fruits, veggies and pellets, out of cage socialing time with all members in the family at this time would be best for future relationships, as an obvious caution it is very important that everyone thoroughly wash hands before handling your baby, have fun and post some pics if you get a chance
