Hey everyone!!!!! So I have settled finally after about 5 months of working with all manor of birds at a sanctuary and my own research, i am no longer going for a YNA but i am getting a B&G macaw. I am looking for a reputuable breeder in the central Florida area (im in Tampa) and also what type of cage do you keep your macaw in? im in a 3/2 townhome by myself so plenty of room for perches and play gyms. For cage is there like a good 4x4x6 cage out there anyone recommends? Thank you!

Here's a list of breeders in Florida, I browse that site once a week or so. I also check Hoobly almost daily, it's a classified site but it often has baby macaws from people in Florida, just be wary of scams and ask to see the baby first. As far as cages go, Ive heard that Kings Cages are excellent for macaws, very sturdy and great quality.

I've looked on birdbreeders and contacted featherheads he seeems very nice just a little high on the B&G price from what I've seen. I have text and called best birds aviary and they haven't got back with me I'm very interested in them though as I've heard good things. Hopefully BBV will get back to me soon! There is a bird show march 12th I will probably end up getting a cage there at a minimum!! Anybody have good tips on bringing home a macaw for the first time!!!

Also I'm kind of hesitant to get a bird off of hoobly. Just makes me nervous lol I'm really hoping that best birds has some babies about to be weaned or I get lucky at the bird show on march 12th

I highly suggest going to the bird shows in florida, you get great deals on cages and you can judge them in person. I was really tempted to buy but unfortunately forgot to bring a big enough car !

As for bringing your new baby macaw home, I would definitely recommend reading these articles: one and two .

The rundown of it is this: Your baby macaw will need adjustment time to feel comfortable being in a new home and being around new people, like any other pet. Work at your bird's pace. Do not handle the baby if it seems at all uncomfortable/lunging/running away from you. Allow it several hours/days to get used to its new cage, room, environment. All birds are different and while one may want to step up for you immediately, another may be frightened of strangers and may take several days to warm up to you. That is okay, and totally normal. Establish a routine from day one, and work with the bird with positive reinforcement by offering tasty treats. As a routine is established and you are interacting more and more with your bird and developing trust, you want to start training. Bite pressure training and target training are great places to start. Hope this helps a little!!
