Hi I was wondering if anyone with experience with both of these beautiful babes:blue1::red1: could give me some input on which we should bring into our family. We do have young kids around so that must be a factor in our addition. Any input would be appreciated

Hi Tammy, so your thinking of being owned by a macaw, you didn't mention how young your children are, if their still at that age where they do everything just the opposite of what their told, such as sticking their hands in the cage to pet the pretty birdie when told not to, then maybe a bit of a wait would be in order as macaws can do extensive damage to little fingers, then the fact that macaws are very much like little children themselves, they need and often demand your undivided attention, they can be very messy with their food and toys, they will often cry/scream when they feel "it's all about me" when your trying to manage your household and doing ten other things at the same time, they will have bad days and sometimes throw temper tantrums......I guess what I'm getting at is, if you have a busy schedule with home, family, outside interests, ect.......just compare bringing a macaw into your home as if adding a perpetual 3 year child into the mix :)

Hi Bob I have a dayhome so the kids range from 1yr to 14yrs. All the kids I watch stay clear of all my birds. The first thing taught is to stay away from the birds and they are all great at that. We actually owned a Greenwing 4 yrs ago but we lived in a condo and noone was home during the day and we had so many complaints that he was screaming all day that we made the very hard decision to rehome him as we knew it was not fair to the bird as well. We now live in a big house and I am home all day every day now as to why we have decided to add another one to the family. He was such a great little(lol) guy and would love another but just wasnt sure if a Greenwing or a Blue and Gold would be the match for us. I am leaning towards a Greenwing again although wanted to explore all our options.
