Today, my mom got me my latest issues of magazines and books. One of them was BirdTalk. As I read through it, the gave an update on the once critically endangered Spix's Macaw.
Bad News: The Spix's Macaw is officially extinct in the wild.
Good News: There's approximately 85 in captivity. 44 females and 29 males are part of the internationalbreeding program managed by Institute Chico Mendes of Biodeversity Conservation. They plan on breeding more macaws to release into the wild.
I hope they can restore the Spix's back to their former glory.
