We were getting our birds groomed today and the groomer pointed out his feet and I wanted to know if anyone has any idea what could be wrong with him or if it’s normal. He is 28 years old and I have had him since he was a baby.

Thank you, for taking a closer look!
What you are seeing is the result of far too many years perching on dowels.

Please visit the Amazon Forum as part of Parrot Forums. When you open the Amazon Forum, you will find at the very top, a Sticky Thread highlighted in light blue titled: I Love Amazons - ... That huge Thread contains near thirty writings regarding the caring and love of Parrots.
Please read at least: 4. Getting to the Foot of the Problem Page 3

This segment will provide information as to why and what is needed to help your Parrot. Within the couple of Posts that follow this segment shows a Blue and Gold on a proper sized natural wood perch. It is important to provide a cross-section of natural wood (branches) perches.
Within a few months you will begin to see improvements in the condition of your Mac's pads. Sadly, not all will recover, but they will not get any worst.
Enjoy the reading!

Thank you for your reply. I will definitely read what you suggested. These are his perches. We don’t use the dowels that come with cages for our birds.

When was his last vet check? 28 years hopefully he has been to the vet at least every couple years..

Those hard perches are very hard on a mac's feet, as you can see. They can develop really sore feet from having them only use hard ones even the big natural ones. Looks like he would benefit greatly from big soft rope perches! Have you tried those before?
