B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.
Freedom loves gourds. I love making her happy. Without me realizing she was doing it, she has trained me that her morning routine is I go in, turn on lights, head scratchies all around, check the temp and adjust radiator if needed, give Freedom her gourd.

These won't be around forever... I think we have 10 left, and a couple of pumpkins for her too. We can get more, but when the stores stop selling them, what do?

I've tried giving her other favored food items, but it is clear: without her morning gourd, the routine has not been satisfied, and she will voice her complaints to the serving staff(me).

Well, that depends on how much you enjoy being on the bad servant list...

Only way out of this hole is to find a substitute morning treat and fast!

May your search be quick...

I'd say gradually give her less each day, I know gourds are near impossible to cut but if you can, start giving her half, then in a few days, give a quarter, then small pieces to getting some every second day, then every few days till you run out.

I used to give Jacob daily cookies, he'd get half a fig cookie every day. I changed his diet so that he'd get less sugar meaning less cookies. He loved his cookies so much and demanded them. Easing him off seemed to work perfect. I'd give him half a cookie every 2nd day, then every 3rd and so on till he now only gets them once every 7-10 days and he's completely fine with that. Now when he gets his half a cookie he devours the whole thing rather than eating sometimes half and tossing it.

I love Jacob, he's so.........macaw!

Haha, ya he's your typical blue and gold clown, that mascara face alone just shows it. I swear sometimes he has screws loose from swinging toys around and letting them come back and hit him in the head. lol :blue1:
