Raising newly hatched chicks from egg without the parents

Ok, so this is a big leap.

I am currently caring for a 7 week old Green Wing Macaw.:red1: I always wanted a Hyacinth Macaw, but I can't afford the prices. But there are Hyacinth eggs available. :blue:

I can buy an incubator, and buy the eggs and hatch them, and great I have a Hyacinth Macaw. However, the recommendation is to leave the baby with the parents for 19 days, then feed it on your own.

But I don't have the parent. Can you offer me advice on how I can accomplish the task of raising a new born Macaw myself without the parent.

For hatching the eggs, what temperature should the incubator be?

After the chick has hatched, do I leave it in the incubator? If so, what temperature to leave it at?

Biologically speaking, parrot eggs are incredibly sensitive. The humidity, temperature, movement, etc - they all have to be precise or else the chick dies. Even if you ignore the legal limitations, even experienced breeders lose chicks when they attempt to incubate themselves, then add transportation problems... ultimately wasted money. So -1 point because the egg will probably die.

Finally, if a breeder waits a few weeks, he could sell the newborn chick for thousands of dollars instead of selling an egg for only hundreds of dollars. That is a lot of money lost.. And -1 point again because it is illogical for a breeder to sell an egg for less money than selling a chick for more money.

Ignore the scam. It has been around for years. Just google "parrot egg scam", and there's a lot of explanations online that says it is a scam.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not buy into this buying parrot eggs thing! It is a scam at best, it is cruel and inhumane at worst and you do not want to play a part in perpetuating it!!

It's a scam for sure, we get a few of them in Australia with 'Toucan and Rhea and Ostriche and other rare birds eggs for sale' even though Toucans are held by only 1 or two people in Australia, and Rheas and Ostriches are only legal through the zoos

NEVER, and I mean N E V ER buy birds as just hatchlings or even in the egg, its a bad idea and the amounts of times I have heard birds dying as just hatchlings or even in the egg is always a sure reason not to

Save up your penny's and buy birds the old fashioned way, ALL GROWN UP AND ALMOST FULLY WEANED

Cheers

I don't think you get it....this 'breeder' does not have real fertile Hyacinth eggs, they were NEVER fertile and you are more likely to get chicken eggs in the mail from this person than a hyacinth chick or egg.

FYI: If the breeder (small 'b') would be willing to sell you eggs, why would you believe that they would not be willing to take your money! Like in requiring a sizable deposit, surprised shipping costs, and surprise, they never ship the Parrot. Sadly it happens very often...

If the seller has a website and you are comfortable sharing, we can help investigate.
