I have no idea in the UK. Here in the states they go for about $8000-$10,000. I know of breeders here only. They are wonderful birds and I have 3 friends that own them. They require a very specialized diet and toy bills are astronomical.

I found out from a friend near London that Hys go for about $15-18,000 for a single bird. Many ads there are scammers.

I've always wondered if the CITES treaty (conservation in trade of exotic species) allows for EXPORT of legally owned and raised in captivity species from the United States to other countries. I live in Jacksonville Florida USA. Just south of our fair city is a furniture store on the corner of US1 (Phillips Highway) and CR210. This furniture store is called Duprees. (spelling?) The woman who runs the store is rather well off and raises many species of macaws and even Toucans in nearby Palm Valley. In the back of the store is a very large cage where she is handfeeding Hyacinth chicks every two hours. Last time I was down there she had a hen chick that was almost 2 years old she wanted $10,000 for and she said she had male chicks for $8,500 This is NOT a scam and you might be able to google this place and get a phone number and contact her to find what legal paperwork might be arranged to obtain a Hy and send it to England if that is even possible...Al

She is selling them for cheap... But the amount of money put in to it to get him over there may end up costing the extra amount that you would spend on a breeder in the UK. Make sure you double check everything.

I am a bit leary of this last post Melly. Wt showing 350-750grms. Hys are over 1000gms and it seems they are using general wt info. I am not sure.
Hys do need a CITES to be shipped out of any country. They will go into a 3 month quarantine before owner can claim.

Hiya!
just my two penneth worth -

I know of a couple of breeders in this country who do sell Hyacinths. The waiting lists for these birds is unbelievable! The two breeders i am thinking of generally sell to public/private collections, not pet homes, and they usually sell for upwards of £10,000 for a **** bird, and £15,000 for a hen. I have only ever met one or two pet hyacinths, absolutely fantastic birds, but relatively brain-less lol!
