Hi does anyone know about hyacinth macaws in australia?
All my research overs the yrs had led me to believe there was no one who owned them apart from a few zoo places who obtained them from illegaly kept pets that were confiscated.
Ive come across an aussie seller thats selling feathers from her 2 hyacinths. She said she bought them from a breeder in victoria but wont disclose further. I would love anyones help on where australian hyacinth macaw breeders are. I am an avid parrot feather collector and would love to contact them

The Laws of each Country is different! What Parrots are allowed for the 'Pet Trade' is likewise different. That said, CITES classify Hyacinth Macaws as Endangered and there are detained documentations require to breed them in most Countries.

You really need to start with your Government first to find what is allowed and what the requirements are in your Country (Australia).

Hyacinths are expensive to obtain and own. They also require an individual knowledgable with their care and handling.

If your interest is in their feathers, I would recommend that you make contact with your regional Zoo and inquire regarding feathers.

There's plenty of Hyacinths in Australia, I know of 2 good breeders with them and one is a local to me

Out of the breeding season expect around $60,000 each, in the breeding season expect prices of $40-50,000

Big thing is, the breeders are extremely private and very rarely like to associate with the general public (I would be private too if I owned $100,000+ worth of birds)

Woops, forgot about that important part sorry

Getting feathers is certainly easier than getting an actual bird of course, sometimes people on Petlink (advertising website) do sell various feathers but Hyacinths would be very expensive

I actually have a small Hyacinth feather at home that I got while I was on work experience at a vet clinic

Best plan is to maybe find a zoo with Hyacinths and contact them directly, they would be a lot kinder compared to some breeders that seem to have it against photo and feather collectors
