Hello all!
I am new to the forum, I wanted to post on here to welcome myself lol! And my (fingers crossed) new Macaw. A little history on myself I work with birds of prey, as a volunteer at a local rehabilitation center. I go out and rescue injured birds and bring them in for rehab, I assist in medical procedures administering meds and occasionally in educational programs (although that was pre-pandemic). Long story short I have always had a propensity for Parrots, and specifically Macaws. Since I was a child. My mother would let us have reptiles, hamsters, dogs cats whatever we like, just no birds! So now that I am a grown man, out of the military and on my own I have decided to start looking at and pricing parrots out. Well in doing do I went to a local Parrot shop, they had babies and rescue birds and everything inbetween. Off in the corner there was a glorious juvenille blue and gold, he was being very quiet and minding his own business. Out of curiosity I walked up to him and said hi, he bent down in his cage and I scratched his head and we had a conversation and as I walked away he said "come back" the owner of the bird shop was astounded. He told me no one had been able to approach him and he was biting and screaming and he was shocked how he took to me right away. So the owner got him out put him on a perch and we bonded. So tomorrow I am going back to put a deposit on him, and play with him. The store is going to train me over the course of 5 to 10 visits on handling him and care. I cant wait!!!! I just am so excited and I know I will be using ya'll for a resource!!! THanks for reading and any input you can offer in advance!!!! He did bite me pretty hard but im used to it with the Raptors.
