Recently through a friend of the family we have learned of a scarlet macaw that has been kepted in a basement without any interaction from anyone other then someone tossing food into his cage and water when the dish is empty. The bird has a foot and a half of bird droppingd in its cage a now lives on top of the cage and since there is no interaction he is pulling feathers. The bird is 20 years old and has three male owners where two really care for this bird and know they have done him wrong and want to give us the bird the last guy doesn't care and just wants his share of 500 back .

We have given the other two guys untill tomorrow(sunday) to convince him that the bird will be better here and have loads of attention and will have a friends once he is checked over if they can't convince him to drop the 500 we have all sat down and talked and decided we will pay just to get him out of there.

My father has met the bird and said due to the living condtions he is friendly and just wants attention the one guy that was with him was happy to see him go to my father because lately he just sits and does nothing and all my father respond with was we are the parrot people there is no parrot that doesn't like any of us

What a sad story for such a beautiful bird ... please keep us updated on this one.

And do me a personal favor, give a "poke in the eye" to the guy who wants his money back ...

Its so sad to hear of any bird suffering like this, hopefully the other two will be able to convince 1 to think of the bird just once.

And do me a personal favor, give a "poke in the eye" to the guy who wants his money back ...
That will do, I was gonna say something like that but have to keep the board PG13. "poke in the other eye" from me.

Gook luck to you, and your new baby, I'm sure that with love and interaction you are gonna have a beautiful, friendly and more importantly happy bird. :D A big pat on the back to you and your family for doing this wonderful thing.

I'd love to poke the jerk in the eye for caring more for money then the bird.

It makes me so upet and the night we talked to the guy who wants the money he was like well parrots chose their owners and well I just want my 500 cut

I'm not even sure if what diet they have the poor guy on but I will soon find out of course I will slowly switch his diet to a better one and he will probably be in shock to be around people and to be abe to see the sun since all he has is a desk lamp for light and I will keep everyone updated and will have pictures as soon as I get him and he gets used to actually seeing people and being part of a family

And something tells me that the Scarlet didn't choose him! Punch him in the face while you are at it!

I'm a big believer in any animal choosing their owners, Just as I'm sure that this bird would not have picked this man (and I use the word lightly) to be his owner.

He should be given a piece of the same medicine, shut in a basement without any interaction at all, I'm sure he would be pulling his hair out in a matter of mins.

That is horrible! Thank god you and your family have come to the rescue for him.
I feel so sorrey for such a beautiful bird being trapped down there. Why would you pay like a couple thousand on a bird and not interact with it! i find that waste.. if he ovbiously knew ahead a time that he wasn't going to give it attention. maybe this bird is stolen.

Unfortunately for some people owning a parrot is more of a status symbol than a real love for the particular bird. I've seen and heard of some real horror stories relating to some of the most expensive of birds, or even some that are fairly rare. Its sad, but unfortunately it goes on.

Out of all of our parrots two where abused and this day when you see them you can never tell Our blue and gold macaw is finally part of the family after she bad experinces but it was a long trip with her.

I guess when they got her (no sure if the bought as a baby or if from another owner) they didn't research macaws because all they said is she is loud and messy well if someone can show me a quiet macaw and a neat one in the matter I think I would fall over shocked even the littlest birds are messy they are like a child and I guess most don't realize it .

I've seen so many parrots in the paper and when I call and ask about them they usually have the same answer I no longer want them because they are loud and messy and they aren't worth having but now I want so and so much amount but in the mean time you can can buy a baby of that and a cage and load it with toys and most people want the babies so those are the ones that suffer untill they give in and it either gets sick or they finally give it up

most people want the babies

That is so very true. When I was looking for my baby I went to a lot of breeders, (I was looking for over a year) and most of them didn't ask too many questions, In fact one of them only said "I want this much deposit" "IT will cost this much" and date I HAD to pick it up by, or I'd lose it, even though I'd paid a deposit. I was outta there I can tell ya.

Thankfully there are so many more reputable breeders than non reputable ones.

I look forward to seeing lots of pics of all of your fellas.

So I just talked to my father and the guy refuses to drop the 500 and my father insulted him by offering 200 :headwall: So after that my dad said fine my wife and my daughter and her husband will pay you the 500 because all they are worried about is that bird and its health and all they care about is saving it from death . So we will be picking him up tonight and his life as he knows it will be a new start Of course he can't just join the flock but he will be in a living area where he can see us until I can get ahold of the vet so he can be seen but he will know that a flock is awaiting him.

We've been telling the suns and our b&G to be prepared for there new baby brother (shhh He is older but we won't tell the other birds)

He may be older, (ssssshhhhhhhh) but the start of his life will be starting real soon. I'm sure he'll show his love for what you are doing for him. We'll be expecting lots of pics :jumping40

The sadest part is that this is happening to parrots everywhere. I feel that people don't respect their needs and them themselves.

I was in PetLand today. I am normally not a fan of their, but it seems like their birds have better living conditions (still not great, but improving). Now, let me next say that I am NOT a prejudiced person. I am all for diversity. There was a family (asian) and their 2 daughters were lookin at the budgies. Well, the MOM went and stuck her hand in the 'enclosuer' and spun it around like a tornado. All the budgies have their wings clipped, and so they really couldn't go anywhere. Well, soon the mom and 2 daughters were doing this to the poor things. I was happy when the mom said that they couldn't have one; I can't imagine how they would treat it!

It seems to me that certain people (groups) don't have a respect for animals. Some men/boys, some asians, celebrities, etc... Celebrities always seem to own an exotic for a status symbol, for instance. I just feel tha too many birds are going to the wrong homes, such as this macaw.

Consider yourself very fortunate she is as handlable as she is. Macaw tend to be spiteful when not taken good care of. I would definatly take her to the vet- my main concern would be a parasites (worms for instance) bacterial infection, or fatty liver disease. Bacterial and parasitic infections are mostly caused by dirty living condition (i.e living in fecal matter) and fatty liver disease is caused by poor diet, especially when they are fed only seed. Make sure to have the vet check for these.

Also, I would definatly quarentein. Who knows what this bird may have, lets hope nothing. I would also give her a shower asap. More than likely, she hasn't been bathed in years...

BTW, kick these guys a***s for me ;) (trying to remain pg)

I, then, would have taken the mother and spun her around and beat her with a stick until candy came flying out her mouth ... OH, wait ... that's not nice!

That's why we just "poke 'em in the eye" or "punch them in the face" around here ... That's our type of justice and, besides, if the 'Stooges' (I hope the American's on here know who I am talking about) can do it so can we!

As you can all imagine my mouth would have jumped in here before I had a chance to think. :D I would of had to say something, and it would have been very sharp and sweet. Not one to mince my words when it comes to the welfare of animals, especially birds.

Also cruelty of animals doesn't seem to me to be set aside for a particular group of people, no matter their race or religion, unfortunately it seems there are some evil humans out there, who find that doing what this lady did as something fun to do. Thankfully she didn't get one.

Over here, we don't get that opportunity everything is locked up tight so you can't get in, unless its with a member of staff. (That was the only good thing about Pets at Home, and I really did not like them) I think anywhere selling animals have to think of such things happening, and take measures to get it stopped.

I'm so glad that we are all keeping this PG and being nice. :D

I, then, would have taken the mother and spun her around and beat her with a stick until candy came flying out her mouth ...
I like it. :D
