Per a suggestion made by one of our members (Wrench13), and the swell of interest generated in its wake, Parrot Forums has opened up the Member Toy Exchange sub-forum. The point of this sub-forum is to provide a venue within which our members can swap bird toys that have been rejected by their own fids. (We've all been there, right? Spending money on a toy that we were so sure would provide them tons of entertainment, only to watch it go tragically untouched and eventually find its way into storage... or the garbage.)

Now members will have a less wasteful option, trading with others who have been through the same cycle. One bird's junk may be another bird's treasure, after all.

All one will need to do is come to this sub-forum and start a new thread with the toy to be swapped/offered. Members can indicate interest on the thread, with further discussion or communication details handled via pm.

A few things to keep in mind.

Parrot Forums is only serving as the venue for these discussions and negotiations. Any deals or agreements made here are solely between the two members involved. As such, Parrot Forums accepts no responsibility for any breaches of contract, whether real or imagined, between the two parties. And any member who chooses to participate does so with full knowledge that the exchange is commencing at their own risk.

Parrot Forums also has no responsibility for any shipping charges incurred. Again, all details of shipping and handling, and any other aspects of the toy swap taking place post-agreement, are the sole responsibility of the participating members.

Also, we urge all of our members to keep in mind the importance of basic sanitary practices both for the health of our birds and as common courtesy. So please clean any and all toys before shipping them to your fellow members. Opening a box and finding a toy crusted over with bird droppings would likely fall far short of pleasant, as well as increasing the possibility of disease transmission.

And as per the rules in every other one of our sub-forums, please do not post your private contact information on the thread. This rule is for your protection, as not everyone who reads a thread will necessarily be a well-meaning member. PM's will suffice for the exchange of other means of contact, such as phone numbers or email addresses.

All that said, thank you for reading and enjoy the toy exchange!

You're welcome, Mary, though it was actually something of a group project. Between Al's idea, all of the members who made such well-reasoned arguments in favor of the new sub-forum, the other mods who discussed the pros and cons with me, and the Admin who did his technical hocus-pocus to make it all happen once we'd come to a consensus.

Looking forward to seeing it all in action.

Thank you moderators. The way I envisioned this.. members post a pic of the toy that is unwanted. If someone thinks their parrot will enjoy that, send a PM to the poster to work out details. I would hope that posters only want to see the toy used and not sitting in a closet. Receivers would pay shipping, but again that's up to the PM between parties.

I feel kina dumb now, cut I have no excess toys.. I just gave a bunch away ( for free ) to a board member. I'm sure it won't be .one before the stinker rejects something else I get him.

Welllllllllllllllllll... as the grateful recipient of Wrench's bounty...

Here's the thread.

http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-toys/62224-confessions-toy-slacker.html

I am happy to report that the Rickeybird loved 4 of the 5... the latter is a big string of rope and wood-blocks, and RB wants nothing to do with it. He generally dislikes toys that are BIGGER than he is!

So I may need some coaching... do we post a picture and ask who wants it? If more than one member wants it, can we just do a raffle? I'm really looking forward to passing Wrench's generosity on...

Thanks again, Mr. Wrench!!!!!

Just post the pic as Al suggested. Anyone who is interested can let you know on the thread and then contact you via pm for any exchange of information.

As for what happens if more than one member wants it, that's entirely up to you. You can go by first-come-first-serve, or wait until someone comes along with a toy that you think would work for Rickeybird and go for the swap, or decide by any other criteria that works for you.

Thank you, thank you, Anansi.

I think the most transparent/uncomplicated way would be to go by "first come, first serve", as recorded in the public posts. If I have any confusion, I'll ask for moderation. How fun!

[Okay, Rickeybird, last chance to like the big toy... it gets posted TOMMORROW!!!!]

So glad to see Administration allowed your idea to move forward. Best of luck :)

Offered for give-away... this is the fifth toy sent to us by the Good Mr. Wrench, the only one which the Rickeybird rejected. It's about 18 inches long, and so is he, so I wasn't too surprised (usually he is leery of toys bigger than he is, and heavier, too). So if you want this bad boy, message me. It really looks like a great toy, but, hey --- the boss doesn't want anything to do with it!
First come, first serve!

Galeriagila you should start your own thread in this subforum so people see it.

Lol.. Mr Good Wrench... never thought of that.
Good idea though, to start a new thread for each new toy offered.
Mods, can we add that to the guidelines for the sub forum?

What happened? Everyone thought this was such a good idea , and one person participates? Guess I'll have to give more toys away to prime the pumps sort of.

Wrench it's one thing to agree in principle. Whole other to actually have something to give away. I have something, but I admit I'm a bit too lazy to deal with shipping it out right now.

Woopsie... maybe a bit of a double-post, but...

(Mods, please delete YouTube link if appropriate, but hopefully following comments can stand)

These exchanges can be gifts that keep on giving.

And I think they really enhance the community feeling.

I have really loved giving AND receiving via this thread.

Here's a thank-you to Wrench (Al) for inspiring it all.

Let's keep it going.

I'm 'inventorying' the Rb's stash and may be offering an item or two...
