Green Cheek Conure
I am from Seekonk MA right on the RI border. I have had my new green cheek conure for 5 days. He/she is approx. 10 weeks old and has been hand fed. We have decided to call her/him Olive because of her general green coloring and pimento red tail.
She is very, very active; moving round and round and up and down her cage and playing with a toy every time she passes one. She's somewhat nippy, and we try to distract her from biting with a toy when she is out of the cage. This meets with modest success. I understand this is normal for a newly weaned bird, but would like to know when this will stop, and what I need to do. She is loving and has already started to cuddle with me. Anyone have any advice to offer, or experiences to share? Thanks!

I also have a young GCC named Cricket because of the sounds he makes. Yes, they are nippy and I just shake it off when the nips come. I do not consider them bites.
They are like little butterflies all over the place, active as any bird could be. Cricket really has not bonded with his cage yet and flits all over the cage to be let out. Distraction is the way to ward off a bite or nip. I will lower my arm if he bites or nips and he stops but I know it will come again. Have fun and keep us updated on your progress with Olive.
