Hello everyone,
My name is Holly and I am a HUGE bird lover. I have two African Greys, Cleo and Sterling, and I also have a lovebird, Toby. Tracy842 and I are really close, she encouraged me to become a member. I have to admit it'd be nice to have people to talk to about my babies, cuz I can go on and on.
Cleo is a rescue, When I got her she had absolutely no feathers on her chesy, around her neck, her back and under her wings. she was such a sorry sight. She was terrified and scared, so obviously that came through instead of her true personality at first. I worked at a pet store for a while, and someone had surrendered her. The staff at the store thought she was vicious and were afraid of her. I have to admit I was a little at first too, the only kind of bird I ever had experience with was a lovebird, so she was a little intimidating.....not so much though that I didn't sneak her her favorite crackers every day! then one day she put her head toward the bars and let me scratch her head for her. I wanted her before that, but this totally made the decision for me. She's been my best friend ever since, and I love her dearly. I have a picture of her when I first got her, and some recent ones now. Tracy842 took some today actually, she's doing alot better.
Sterling, I got at the same pet store. He wasn't a rescue, just a baby that I completely fell in love with. I was the only person he liked! he'd watch me wherever i was in the store, and beg to step up whenever I approached him. Believe me, ask Tracy, he wasn't like that with everyone. he wasn't properly looked after there, and has a bad vitamin A deficiency that we're still battling. I left the store for a better job, and I had to take Sterling with me. I couldn't bear to leave him there, not knowing where he'd go or who he wound up with. I wanted it to be me! So we brought him home. He has totally turned into something amazing. He's a totally different bird now. He's happy, and energetic, and loves to talk. Just a baby yet so he's still babbling alot. His favorite thing right now is 'bop!bop!bop!' and that sorta suits him cuz he's super clumsy. I never knew him at all in the store, although I thought I did. His true personality came out once he had a family, and I had to get to know him all over again!
And last but not least I have Toby. She's her fathers baby. LOVES men this one does. Girls, not so much. Have you ever seen a bird flirt? This one does! We got her from someone who didn't want her anymore. She was allergic. it was obvious though this woman loved her, she gave me a list of all the food Toby liked and everything, but didn't know how to look after a bird. She was in a huge floor to ceiling cage with just a swing in it, and some food and water. All by herself. We brought her home and Changed all that. I think she's got more toys than Sterling and Cleo put together! She loves balls, and bells......balls with bells, anything that makes noise. She's small, but she doesn't think so. Such a huge personality. it's amazing.
So yeah, It's obvious I can go on and on if you'd let me, my birds are my life! I'll stop now. I just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself and my babies to everyone, Tracy has heard all this stuff 10 times over. Right Tracy? And now you've gotta read it too! She goes on and on about hers too, so I don't feel bad at all.
