Ducorps Cockatoo
Hi, My name is Catherine. I stumbled on this forum while doing some research and really liked it. I own a Ducorps Cockatoo who is still very young. I work from home so he/she (not sure and not really bothered which...but if I could guess I would say boy ;)) is a very lucky little boy because he is out of his cage all day long creating havoc around the house.

I am a photographer (wedding and other) as well as a designer and researcher. Not sure what else to tell you without blabbing on about myself so I will leave it at that and you can feel free to ask Qs if you want to know anything :)

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

My Ducorps Cockatoo is almost 3 yrs now. The reason I chose a Ducrops ( I did A LOT of research ) was because they are the quietest of the Toos. He cried (a funny whinning sound) when he was a baby - for about 7 months, and if you can get past that then you are good to go haha. *you can youtube some clips of ducorps crying, poor little things haha*

I had an African Grey before but lost her in an accident (heart breaking) and I decided on a Too this time because they are so much more cuddly than the Greys. My little Grey was amazing though!

Stitch (my too) is a complete clown. He LOVEs to do tricks because he knows he will get attention haha. He swings upside-down on my finger shouting "upsydon" (as close as he can get to up side down) and then immediately jumps into my neck for a cuddle (his reward when he was learning the trick). His biggest addiction is peanut butter which he gets on special occasions. When he sees the peanut butter jar coming out he shouts "turnaroundturnaroundturnaround" while running in little circles. Then he stops and says "GOODBOY!" before he gets a little peanut butter on a spoon. At one stage he remembered where I stored the peanut butter, snuck into the kitchen and learnt how to get the lid off!! I found him with his head in the jar COVERED in peanut butter. My Word!

He sings to the songs we play at home (I have some amazing videos I will put on Youtube and then share with you guys).

He is gentle and sweet and I love him so much :) He definitely has me very well trained :p

There were no Ducorps breeders in my area so I had to have him flown in when he was a baby. He spend almost 8 hours in a little (very well kitted out) shipping crate and arrived relatively calm. It only took him a day to settle down after the flight so I thank the breeders for doing such a good job at shipping properly. There are no short cuts when kitting out your shipping crate!

I am not 100% sure how to upload photos yet, I thought I did yesterday but they aren't showing up, in the mean time here is a link to my album of Stitch :) Stitch | Facebook
I will get some photos on my profile here asap :)

Thanks for compliments on the pics :)

We had a big problem with him and the locks on his cage, he just got them all off - key locks and number coded locks! I resorted to cable ties each night to lock the cage until I found a really heavy duty lock haha :)
