Blue Headed Pionus : Po
Aloha to all the crazy bird people like me,

I took home a baby Blue Headed Pionus 5 days ago. A bird of my dream for years and years. I have been completely fascinated and obsessed with birds, parrots especially, ever since I met my first bird, Coconut a peach faced lovebird 10 years ago. She opened my eyes to the amazing world of parrots and I am so grateful to her for showing me how wonderful life can be with birds in it.

My 6 months old Blue Headed Pi, Po has been just absolutely perfect so far. I do not know it's sex, but I call Po "he". I've read many articles and visited pretty much all websites related to Pionus written in Japanese and English for the past eight years. I knew about their unique smell, quiet and gentle nature, and the famous wheezing..etc.. But to actually experience them is just simply amazing. Po is shy, gentle and quiet. I can see that he has slowly but surely opened up to my husband and I already.
For the past 5 days, he has been just too good to be true pet. He is quiet, except for occasional loud chirping in the afternoon when he hears birds outside which only lasts for a minute or two. He is shy, but lets us scratch his head, knows step up, never bites and he even learned to say " What are you doing?" already!

I am just so completely helplessly in love. I know he may not remain the same perfect sweet little baby for parrots go through many changes through out their life and I am afraid that he is spoiling me with perfect nature!

I joined this forum to learn more about Pionus from other more experienced owners and to be the best Pi owner for him!

I wish all the people in the world would have a chance to know how fascinating and amazing parrots are.......

Hi Brighteyes,

Congratulations to you too! My Po is the same way. I was preparing to take time and get to know him first but he step up right away and tonight, he even cuddled with my husband and I and we had a over hour long good scratch session.... he nestled on our chest and just begged to be scratched forever. He protested each time we stopped so my husband and I took tern to lay on the couch and scratched him for over an hour :) I am so very happy that he is bonding with both us so quickly. Next task is to somehow make him eat more Vegetables!

Keats (budgie) born Feb. 18, 2011, and Raphael (budgie) adopted July 3, 2011. Finn, a Brown-Head Poicephalus, born January 4, 2010, has also joined the family!
Congratulations! I just brought my dream bird, a brown-head Poicephalus, home 2 weeks ago, so I know how you feel :) May you have many happy years together.

Hi brightened,

I know, I was wondering about that too. I thought this is just too good to be true, so must be the baby stage, but Pionus is ot known for their cuddliness so I think I just got really lucky. All he wants to do is to snuggle with us and get his head and neck scratched. From my experience, conures are way more cuddly than Pionus so I think your baby will always be cuddly! How old is your baby?

Hi bright star!
Cngratulations to you too!!
I think brown headed parrots look a lot like Pi and they are also so beautiful. The personality is like Pi and Conure combine, I heard. Your baby must be cuddly too? Blue headed Pi was my dream bird just like brown headed was to you too and I have to say, they are worth the wait. I don't even know why people are not line up for Pi breeder to get their own Pi babies!
I would love to hear from both of you to brag each others baby's progress!
