Squawk from Maine

Hi all,

I am a new conure owner as of late September. He (or she) is a smallish green check conure, which was bought as a family pet for us and our two kids, 12 and 9. The eldest is allergic to fur, so most pets are out of the question, but some research on conures told us that GCCs don't have that many allergens falling off of them.

Plus, a buddy of mine has a nice black cap conure who the kids adore. So, we went up to a breeder in Maine, and found an 8 month old hand raised bird who sat pretty calmly with me. The breeder had not DNA tested it, so we don't know the gender. The kids want it to be male, so male he is, although I really suspect it's a she.

He is named Loki, has settled in pretty well, is friendly to everyone, but still (wisely) a bit scared of the 9 year old. He's bonded to me the most, which is a shame because I am out working 15 hours a day and only cone home in the late evening.

I've owned a parakeet as a kid for a long time, and a cockatiel as an adult, and I apparently have a way with birds, but I have a ton of behavioral questions that I look forward to chatting to people about.

Wecome to our forum. I have a little guy named Cricket He is a 5 month old GCC. Not friendly with my grey at all. He is jealous of her. I try to keep them apart. I am sure you will have lots of fun with your birds.

Maine, USA? Me too!!! And I just got my GCC in early Oct.
What breeder did you go to? Did you go to Whitmores?

Thanks all! I bought him from a breeder up in Freedom Maine. I got his number and first name (Tom) from someone else who was actually listed in the inter-nets and was out of business.

Oh cool! I got mine from Parrot Safari in NH.
