Hello! My name is Emily. It's been a few years since I've had birds, but I grew up with parakeets and cockatiels. My first parakeet (and also my last), Becca, lived well into her teens.
Geordi - Quaker of unknown sex. I rescued Geordi from a craigslist ad...he was owned by a teenage boy that didn't really understand what he was getting into. When I picked him up, he was namd Georgie...I'm a Trekkie so it wasn't long until he had a new name.
Geordi doesn't have any idea how to step up and he will panic when I put him on my finger. He didn't have any toys when I got him and I've had to introduce them slowly because he is terrified of them. Even with his..quirks...Geordi is a doll to have around. He'll take scratches until my hand cramps and has started to associate a 'yes' headshake with asking for more scratches.
Data - Male White Parrotlet. Originally, I was going to get a pair of parrotlets but unfortunately Data lost his cagemate right before we got him. He had been in the store since he was weaned, with only his cagemate and other birds to occupy his days. Data is completely wild (no surprise there) but is much more accepting of toys. My Mom has decided to take on the challenge of socializing him.
Those are my two current birds. I am going to be getting a Sun Conure in a couple of months when he/she is weaned. They are actually due to hatch today or tomorrow. Rounding out our zoo are four dogs, a mischief of rats and two bearded dragons. I am beyond excited about having birds again...I loved having them as a kid and I'm enjoying them just as much now.
