I am currently parrotless but hope to be owned by a parrot in the next few months. :-)
Hello Everyone,

I am new here. I do not currently have any birds but I have a flock dream, do you? My dream flock consists of 2 blue throated macaws, 1 eclectus (female), 1 Hyacinth Macaw, 1 Major Mitchell Cockatoo, and 1 Catalina Macaw. I am already in contacts with a breeder and due to receive my first bird a blue throated macaw within the next year. I've been wanting a bird since I was 13, so I'm very excited about this.

I would love to hear what your dream flock is? What birds do you already have and what bird(s) do you want? Thanks in advance!!

I'm with oled on this, one is (currently anyway!) enough for me! :D

Though, I do plan to add to my flock eventually. Currently it's me and my (male) jenday Alex. I would love to get another jenday to go with him, possibly a female, but I really have no interest in breeding birds so I'm not sure yet.

I would one day love to have a bronze winged pionus I think. I'd never seen one until someone posted one here yesterday, but they seem like very nice little guys. And originally I wanted an ekkie, but fell in love with my Jenday when looking at one, so I suppose I better add one of those as well :) I also wouldn't mind an African grey. But beyond getting Alex a companion eventually when I finish uni and have to work full time, I don't think I would set out to buy these birds. If they shown up in a rescue I would JUMP at the chance, but that would be about it :)

When I was younger my dream flock was a Greenwing Macaw and a Grey. I have my Grey now. But, I think I love all birds actually. The 3 I have make up a lovely flock!

I currently have a Congo African Grey and a Blue Front Amazon but I would love a breeding pair of Spix's Macaws to help bring up the population but we all know that will never happen.

I have a grey, I'd like a blue and gold macaw and an umbrella too (and the time for them!). The last two are just too big until I win the lottery and can afford a bigger house. :)

My dream flock doesn't include anything really exotic or unusual. Start with Ralph, the Quaker now in residence, and add an Amazon of some type, an African Grey (either CAG or TAG), and Eclectus (of either sex) and perhaps a Hahn's Macaw. Those at least are at the top of my list of Parrots I'd Like to Have Someday; the list goes on from there, and there aren't many parrots that aren't on the list-- they're all fascinating to me. :)

I think at least one more caique. Maybe 3 more. I really want to see a bunch of crazy caiques being crazy together!

A pair of eclectuses. I've wanted an eclectus since I was 12, but as long as we are dreaming, why not a pair? I like the idea of them having a same-species companion.

And some rainbow lories!

Maybe a macaw or two! Macaws are neat! A B&G, scarlet, and/or a Hyacinth!

I like cockatoos, but I have read too many neurotic stories about them, but let's throw some nice, fluffy cockatoos into my fantasy as well!

Also, the must ALL be rescues! AND, lots of space in an outdoor aviary! AND they will all get along with each other. And somebody to help me clean up after them.

Aren't all (or almost all) parrots exotic? :)

I think you'd do fine with a too! Like you I love toos, but I prefer watching them in the wild to captivity (lucky me they are EVERYWHERE here, being native. We have sulphurs in our backyard!) :) Like you, I've heard too many storied of neurotic birds (so bad as to need prozac and similar meds in some cases!) I think it takes a very dedicated and very knowledgeable person to own a too and keep it happy. They are called the velcro birds after all :p I think I'll stick with my more easily pleases species for now :)

I used to have a huge thing for larger parrots, toos, macaws and the like (very nearly bought a female BG once!) but my jenday has turned me conure and small parrot crazy. I still wouldn't mind a larger bird one day, but I'd much rather prefer a big flock of little birds! :p

Remy you really got me dreaming big time here. I think for my dream flock I'll have a helper also. And OOoo Oooo one of those Golden Macaws I just read about. But that would bring my total to 7 high needs (for attention etc) birds and so I must have a bird/flock nanny. lol. a girl can dream cant she??

Maybe someday! I'm not saying never! I've met a bunch of very sweet 'toos. I fell in love with a few at the rescue, but I didn't think it was a good idea. Maybe when I have a more stable and established life.

I'm going through a lot of life changes, and Puck seems to adapt well to change! I have heard 'toos need more stability and routine.

Well, we are just fantasizing! I'd also like a ridiculous amount of money, and friends. And an airplane, and a horse, and a lot of land for the horse to run free, and a few more horses to keep said horse company. And dogs. And to not be allergic to cats.

Realistically, I'm not planning on getting any more birds soon. Maybe a buddy for Puck, but nothing much bigger than him. I don't think it's practical or realistic.

I need to go to bed. lol.

Ah well, a pair of each then :p. While I'm at it, how about my own horse and the land to keep him/her, a new car, a jet and a huge house for me and all those birds :p Oh, and a ton of money, we could all use that, right? ;) And how about a huge aviary? I guess I'll be needing one of those!

I love all parrots of course, large birds are gorgeous! But I love my little guys, I think theirs a certain charm to them ;)

That and the smaller parrots, while still very smart, don't seem to have the huge emotional intelligence of the larger birds, and are hence easier to keep happy in captivity. I like that Alex (my jenday) is always happy, no matter what. It takes a lot to upset him! :D Either that, or he is just very well adjusted. :54:

I'm going through a lot of life changes, and Puck seems to adapt well to change! I have heard 'toos need more stability and routine.

Same here with Alex and why I (probably anyway) won't get anymore birds until I finish uni and settle. He was raised in a very full on life, moving and travelling regularly with me as a chick so it's just second nature to us both now. :p I think we have moved 3 times over the last year (4 if you count a 2 month visit to the parents while we waited for our latest property's tenants to move out :p) and he LOVED it all. It's gotten to the stage where I have to stash his travel cage away, because soon as he sees it he is IN it looking for the next adventure. His favourite trip is the day trip we do a few cities over to visit my great grandma. He loves her. Probably because she feeds him so many treats!

I doubt many of the birds I want could be that adaptable and easygoing, hence why I plan to wait until I have my own place.;) I considered adding another jenday or a caique to our 'two man flock' (ie, just me and Alex) but I have no guarentee they would adapt so well to all the travel we do, and the crazy house I keep, so it's better for me (and those hypothetical birds) to wait. That and I'm in uni and living off next to nothing, and while Alex lives like a prince, I don't, and another bird might make finances tight

I'm so glad puck adapts well, it's so great when they just kind of slot into your life and you don't really need to worry about them fretting. ;)
