I have 1 GCC named Sandoval, he's a recent addtion and is only about 12 or 13 weeks old. My daughter and I also have three Pacific Parrotlets, which love to have babies! Little Handsome, Luli and thei
Hello everyone, I've already posted in the conure forum, but that was before I saw the "introduce yourself " forum. I'm a brand new green cheek conure owner, and before I got him(her?) I fell in love with parrotlets and have three of them. Two are a mating pair, still friendly and the other is Nod, their daughter. I was in a relationship for ten years, where my partners belief was that birds were 'creepy' and I was strongly discouraged from having any...let alone one. But since that ended, I decided to explore my curiosity and eventual love for these little dynamoes. I wasn't disappointed. I say that Sandoval is my first gcc, but actually I had another shortly before purchasing Sandoval. She was poorly and malnourished and lethargic and despite my best efforts and a visit to an avian vet, she died within a month of having her, broke my heart. But she did teach me how wonderful greencheeks can be, and I didn't want to go my whole life without ever experiencing that kind of love again...she was special. Now Sandoval has yet to give me his seal of approval, like grinding his beak as he sits with me, and I might be projecting, but sometimes I feel like he's just tolerating me, lol....Do any of the seasoned gcc owners out there have any advice for me that might further the trust in our relationship? I only want him to know he's loved. Also, he has gone out of his way to bite my little girl, she's five and gives him a very wide berth, but this is unacceptable. I haven't ever hit him, nor will i ever...I just need advice on how to build trust and keep him from biting when he gets frustrated. Maybe it will just take time..but any advice will be appreciated.
In the distant future, I'd like to get another companion parrot that would fit in with our family.
Thanks everyone,

Sandoval is 14 or 15 weeks old. He was a gift from a dear friend in North Carolina. He and I are learning a little more about each other every day...sometimes he amazes me with his intuition! Are all gcc this empathic? lol
