Catalina Macaw, Sunny
As my screen name implies I am a sculptor from Texas. We are the proud flock mates of a way too spoiled and loquacious Catalina Macaw, Sunny. She travels with us and has a great zest for life which keeps us constantly laughing at her comments. Until last year we also had Lulu the quaker, who's unfortunate passing has left a big hole in our flock. Some day I'm sure we will welcome an old african grey into our tiny flock. Why old? Because we are about retirement age and Sunny is only four so we will have to make arrangements for her future. We hand fed our beloved quaker, but any future bird joining our flock will be an old fella in need of a last home. I'm looking forward to listening and learning on this forum.

hello and welcome to the forum. I am passed retirement age and have an 11 mo old green quaker a three year old canary, and two elderly minpins. Our daughter already knows she is inheriting the birds so I think our flock is complete. I think you should be commended for considerind a rescue. Alison and sweetie pie:D

Howdy there. While I do not live in the great state of Tx I do have family there. Love the way you take your bird for social outings. wish I could do that with my grey but she is quite shook up about meeting other people. It stresses her out way too much.

So glad you are planning on adopting a senior grey, as too many end up in rescue situations because people get them before they realize just how long these birds can live!

It was the arrival of then two year old Sunny that brought home the realization that there are so many birds out there who may lose their families and need a home. We are her third home and she was a very grumpy handful for a few months. Sunny is four now and will probably outlive us. That is a big responsibility. We enjoyed raising our quaker but now realize how many wonderful older birds need love too. Rehoming is so hard on these wonderfully intelligent creatures and in their pain I think many of them are misunderstood and wind up rehomed again and again.
