African Grey and a Greenwing Macaw
Hello, I (obviously) am a new member. I have an 35ish year old African Grey names Gio and will be bringing home the newest member of our family in a couple of weeks, Salsa is a 13 year old Greenwing Macaw. We (my husband and I) have to go to Honduras for a couple of weeks to help my aunt since her husband recently passed away, but upon our return Salsa will be coming home. I am terribly excited about it and haven't told anyone around here so I figured I would find a good forum where I could share my excitement and also gain more bird knowledge.

Looking forward to getting to know ya'll. :D

Gio (my grey) has been quite a project. When I got him 4 years ago he had been abused and was a wild caught bird in the first place. He only had feathers on his head and wings. It took a couple years to get him to the point where it wasn't a huge trauma just to feed and water him, but now we've gotten to the point where we are making progress. I can open his cage door and pet and scratch him and just in the last couple weeks we have progressed to stick training and the step up command. I'm happy to say he has been in full healthy feather for two years and he is doing well. Anyway, I have been longing to have a more "willing" companion until Gio gets a little more interactive so after a long search I found Salsa. I think she is going to be a wonderful bird. I have visited her several times and I just love her. My husband is not a "bird person" but is ok with me having them as long as he is not expected to "play" with them. (he is actually a softy, just don't tell anyone, K.) Anyway, thank you for all of the welcomes!! I will be sure to post some pictures as soon as I return from the island!!
