Parrots
green quaker
Hi My name is Andy & i'm 67years old married with 3 daughters & 4 grandkids.I also have 3 dogs ( molly, rosie and lucy all ladies ) and we have just got a green quaker parrot 25 weeks old and called him alfie.I would like to ask or be pointed in the right direction for the answers to what i think are 3 important questions.
1.. what size cage would i need for alfie ( i don't think we will be having any more parrots so for a single bird would suffice )
2.. What is the best food to feed him on (pellets or seed etc & who's make )
3.. And should i have him clipped or not..

at the moment i am trying with great difficulty to put my hand in and stroke him .but i think the cage we got is a bit on the small size its 17"W x 13"D x 26" H and feeding him seed.
any info will be digested.
many thanks in advance....x

Hello Andy and welcome to the Forum :) Congrats on your new addition :)

Have a look at the Montana Mini San Remo Cage on line.. This is a great Cage for a Quaker :)

A great site for food here in the UK is northernparrots.com.. they sell all types of food.. A good seed mix and pellets mixed together is good, along with plenty of fresh Fruit and Veg each day! Another good food is Pasta, brown rice etc.

Would like to see some pics of your new quaker :)

Here is how to post pics if you are not sure:)

When you are creating your post, go into attachments, click on upload from Computer, then browse.. click on the pic you want to show, then click on upload.... or if you have photobucket just hover mouse over the image then left click on IMG and it will say copied, then just paste into your message box, go onto preview post and it will show if it has gone in properly:)

welcome to the forum and congrats on you new quaker parrot. for my qp I use a flight cage on a stand with wheels that would also fit finches canaries or cockatiels and smaller parrots. I have one for each of my two parrots. The inside usable space dimensions is 20 inches front to back 32 inches long and 35 inches from top to bottom on the stand it is 59 inches high. sorry I don't do metric. This size gives him a lot of space to climb around and plenty of room to flap his wings and still have room for lots of toys swings and perches. I bought the cages from ebay.:D

just went back to reread your post I live in the usa. for food lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, cooked brown rice cooked plain pasta. most foods that you eat they can have in reasonable amts. No chocolate, avacado, or alcohol, ever. For seed I use Higgens Gormet sun conure mix. and I use pellets in their birdy bread zupreem fruit pellets. They also get small amts of cooked beef or chicken, cooked shrimp, cooked fish etc depending on what we are eating ,hard boiled egg, You will find lots of helpfull people on this forum feel free to ask questions.:D

congrats on your new quaker, they're great little birds! if your having trouble petting him, just give him time, talk to him softly, and drop a treat in his dish when you walk by. You could also clicker train him. try feeding him treats through the cage bars so he gets used to your hands. good luck and welcome :)

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new addition! I own a blue Quaker and love him dearly, though he can be a bit of a screamer at times. I feed mine fresh vegetables and some fruit, little seed and RoudyBush pellets. I just started making birdie muffins. I'm sure if you look on the recipes section you could find one. All my guys love them. This is a great forum. I have found a lot of nice people and a lot of great information!
