Hi everyone, my wife and I love our birds. We have two Macaws, a Blue & Gold plus a Greenwing, an African Grey, a Double Yellow Headed Amazon plus a Cockatiel. We are getting a Hyacinth Macaw next month, she is beautiful, can't wait....
My wife is retired so the birds spend the day outside their cages on their Java trees. They all sleep in separate cages, yes we have converted half our Great Room into an aviary. The Macaws are inseperable. We got them one week apart when they were 6 weeks old, they are now 1.5 years old. We have to seperate them for most of the day since the Greenwing was over preening the Blue & Gold, causing feather loss on her head, thus they have their own large Java tree to play in. The African Grey thinks she is the boss so we have to keep her away from the Greenwing. The Amazon was a rescue, 5 years old and tolerates the African Grey. They all love their toys and yes we buy allot of them.....
We plan on socializing the Hyacinth with the other Macaws as soon as we get her next month. Hopefully she will be well received by the other Macaws.
Yes our life has gone to the birds!!!!:)

i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
It sounds like a wonderful flock/life! I own a cag & rescue lca. I have been looking to add one more bird to our home ( I have always dreamed of a green wing) however I put that out of my head because I have been nervous of the noise factor. My husband does alot of work out of the home in the evenings and I don't want to make him crazy! Well I went to my breeder and there is the most adorable green wing male. I have gone to visit him now twice (today with my husband) he is on the fence, I however would like to get him right away! My question is what am I looking at noise wise? I love the sound of my birds (any birds) however I know my husbands tolerance is lower than mine. I think outburst of noise is fine however constant noise will make him crazy. I know this is a bit of a silly question as all birds are different. I have had lots of great info from "wharfrat" I would like to hear from another macaw owner as well.
Sorry don't want to hijack your thread, it's just you have several macaws! I need to know should I go for the dream bird or start looking again towards the smaller parrots (mealys, panamas or maybe another cag)
thanks!

Welcome to the forum... That's quite a flock you have...

I would be interested in knowing your routine with the birds... How do you give them all the attention they need?

Can't wait to see pics of the Hyacinth...

Our Greenwing is not noisy at all, just make sure he has plenty of toys to destroy.....he only makes noises when he wakes up in the morning and wants us up, then again the African Grey gets all the others going to get us up..OK during the week since I get up at 5:30, but they haven't figured out the weekends yet.....
We say go-ahead and get your Greenwing. I'm on business calls at night with folks in Asia, if they hear a bird in the back-ground they know who it's from. The Greenwing is becoming the most playful of the 3 Macaws we have. He loves to jump on us, lay on his back to let me rub his belly, he dances and gives kisses. You won't be sorry, we fell in love with him the moment the breeder put him in our arms....the rest is history, will post pictures soon.....

We manage our time very well. My wife takes care of our babies during the day on weekedays, when I get home at night the Amazon yells "Papa" until I give her some attention. At night the Macaws make their way to me when I sit in our Great room where we have the Java trees they play in all day. My wife plays with the African Grey (her favorite) plus the Amazon and Cockatiel and I have the Macaws in the evening. During the day she plays with them all, feeds them breakfast, mid-day snack plus nuts and cleans their cages daily. On weekends I have the feeding and cage cleaning duties. It's allot of work but well worth it, these are our children that will never leave.....
