One green-cheek conure who goes by 'Wookie'. :)
I am relatively new to keeping exotic birds as we have only had our male green-cheek conure, dubbed Wookie, for around six or seven months. His age is estimated to be around five years. He's a rescue and has had a shady past...I truly do believe the woman who bought him loved him and only wanted the best for him, but sadly she did not bother to research the unique needs of a companion parrot and the people she lived with began physically abusing him. At least she realised he needed a better home.

He is a powerful biter for such a little bird with a strong mistrust of hands, but he is gentle around your face and he will sit happily on your hand/arm/shoulder/where ever, it's just a matter of knowing how to move around him and letting him do things at his own pace. He has a mountain of issues to work through and I am content with the possibility that he may never be as cuddly or playful as other captive conures who have not been neglected to such an extent. In these past months he has become a solid member of our already eccentric little family family and my mother is looking forward to being his primary caregiver when I move into my college dorms.

I'm constantly on the look-out for good forums and information in order to give Wookie the best life I possibly can, and I am really really glad to have found yet another awesome board dedicated to these beautiful, wonderful animals.

I'm usually a serial lurker but I'll lend my voice as much as I possibly can. :)

Oh and I'll have pics soon, I just need to recharge my camera!

I mean really, how could you hurt one of these little guys? There is a special place in Hell for A$$es like that ...

However, there are very special places for people like you Beach who help out birdies in bad situations. You are welcomed with open arms and wings here ...

I would like to introduce you to Mac, my GCC ... and I do agree with you for the little 'punch' they have in their bites ... but I don't know of any bird with a bigger zest for life or a bigger attitude ... GCC don't know that they are only little birds, they have that BIG BIRD mentality ... and they are just so cute ...

We will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have along the way ... and hopefully you will be able to supply us with lots of pictures because:

Thank you for the welcome, and yeah I KNOW. HOW could someone ever, EVER hit or abuse a bird? Or any animal for that matter?!

Anyway I have heard them called "the terriers of the parrot world" and Wookie is certainly living up to that reputation! What amazing birds, I'd adopt another gcc in a heartbeat.

So I give to you...a deluge of pictures! ^__^ I just put him in his cage for the night so I didn't want to take him back out. At first he was wary of the camera but then he loosened up and took a nice before-bed bath. It always has to be at night! lol

Edit: Why can I not see the pictures? And don't mind the off date. Camera's...weird.

It's a failsafe against spammers ... I wonder if I can fix that ... hold on let me see what I can do ... If I can't fix it this will clear on it's own ...

OOOOH, I can fix this issue from now on ... ooooh, that's kinda exciting!

Beach, you are now an established user and you will be able to see all your pictures!

What a cutie he is ... you can almost see his little attitude in his eyes ... As for the before bedtime bath ... that's so completely normal, Mac tends to have his in the morning before breakfast IF he doesn't get a shower with me ...

Sweet, and thanks. Sorry they're so big, I could have sworn I sized them down to 160 x something.

Edit - um...huh. Looks like they're at the sizes I wanted them to be. o_O

I'd love to bring Wookums into the shower with me, I'm just sort of hesitant. I've tried misting but he didn't like that at all. In the future, maybe when he's more secure, I'm gonna try to get him around shallow bowls and whatnot outside his cage for bathing, so he won't have to resort to his little dish which he can hardly squeeze into, lol.

Oh and Mac is so gorgeous! Awesome picture there.

Lori - I agree. It makes me sick. D:
