Hi there---I'm Angela, and live Utah. (south of Salt Lake City). I aquired a DNA sexed female Goffin's Cockatoo late last summer and have 2 cute little hand-fed budgies. (Male and Female)
I am always looking for ways to improve their diet, especially if it is easy and convienent! My Goffin's Cockatoo was fed a seed only diet by a previous owner and is a very picky eater. He also loves to throw food over is head and onto his back, which I have heard is a Goffin's traight.
Does anyone else have a bird that picks up food with their feet and throw them over the head onto the back? So much waste!
I bought a macaw sized heavy duty cage for her, and I am always putting in new toys. She is out of the cage for at LEAST 2.5 hours on weekdays and a good part of the day on weekends (4-6 hours). She still screeches when in her cage and we are hanging around the house. If we are home, and she is not on me, she will screach. (Even if she is out on her playset and I am sitting on the couch). Anyone with similar experiences? What have you tried? I understand some screeching (especially at sunrise and dusk) is to be expected---but this is ALL the time if she can see me, or hear me...unless she is being held. (I have learned to do chores and pretty much everything with her attached to me).
Thanks--and look forward to meeting y'all!
