Just found your forum and rather pleased as I'm sure I'll have a few (hundreds) questions as I muster along..

I just recently purchased a "baby" U2s. ( feel like I'm talking about a rock group)...well might be by the sounds that come her/him..but I expected that..

I have owned an Amazon parrot for 35 years and as the story goes she died in August 2012...I thought about getting another but wasn't sure on what ..however this happened and as it went this cutie reached out to me. (Bet you heard that one before)....

I did buy her from a breeder and she's 4 mos old. Already says "hello". And "ok". Which surprised me. But then lately everything does...yes she does her screams in morning and at night before I cover her. And sometimes when I'm giving her her morning shower she chuckles. Cute but hope it stays that way. Don't want a dirty bird. Hahaha. Sorry had to put that in.

Feeding Well I have a few questions but guess I'll post that where it belongs. However I was given feed for her. Pretty Bird and a bag of mixed feed for Parrots that has everything in it also called Champion..I still did up a bowl of mixed vegs and fruit.

She's a charmer and I'm gonna try not to spoil her have her out a few times a day and as I go around the house cleaning she checks to see where I'm at..

I do have dogs. But her out time is there in time. I don't want any surprises..

I'm retired so my age which is 69 and hopefully counting my hubby still works and is up in Pa. He comes in for his vacations So sure hope shell not be only mine .

I also have it set up like with my other fur babes that who they are to go too. I was worried with her age that I pray the good Lord gives me plenty of time to enjoy her. I do realize their life span and as a responsible care taker and lover I made sure we do the right thing..Now just to do my research on whom will be able to live with this beautiful God's gift.

Guess I went out in the zones here. Any way I'm happy to join and learn from the masters..:)

Thanks

God bless

Hi! welcome to the forum, your new baby (What's her name?) sounds wonderful, but do find thier screams as creepy as me? Macaws sound like parrots when they scream, but u2's sound like a person screaming, having one in the house would just creep me out in thier bouts of noise! I guess it's worth it when they snuggle up next to you. Were you hit by Sandy?

@ BirdSquawk....forgot didn't I ..her name is SHUGA (pronounced as Sugar..ie. "give me some Suga"). As my hubby is from MS. Ad this would make him feel better after I told him how much I spent. Hahaha

@Aliray, yes I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how and windows 8 ..I have a double whammy !

I'm just so tickled pink as SHUGA is really a smart little cookie. And she is looking out the window and that allows me to do my chores..I'm really trying not to spoil her but still give her a lot of love...even have my food list of what veggies I need to pick up..green beans broccoli, spinach and corn on the Cobb. She'll eat better than me hahaha well all my critters do. But don't we always do that..

Thanks for welcoming me. Trying to figure out where I do what here.

God bless

Yes, I love retirement. And we did get hit with Sandy. It was awful..pray constantly for those that are still in a bad situation

Mine also like baby carrots, sugar snap peas, fresh broccali, fresh greens such as kale. cabbage, beet greens, fresh peeled, cored and sliced apple. Walmart sells bags of fresh sugar snap peas ready to cook and also bags of ready to use mixed vegies such as broccali, carrots and cauilflower all washed and ready to go. Publix also has great buys on the same types of mixes and they also sell small containers of fresh cut fruit mixes with watermelon, cantelope, strawberries and pineapple.

Thanks so much..I was wondering if I could buy in small amounts and cut up and keep in frig till ready to use..I did some celery, carrot and apple and cut up in small pieces and let it sit out till room temp them gave her..she's a little slow on eating them just yet I think she's just on feed for a short time so things are somewhat strange

Guess best move this to feeding topic hahaha.

I have her on my should now as its her out time. And she's watching me type on my ipad. She's very alert and really curious.

I'll check out the per cut goodies.

Thanks so much

God bless

Welcome to the forum. Your baby sounds awesome. I have never owned a Too, but I think they are beautiful birds. Did the breeder you got Shuga from wean her completely from formula? At 4 1/2 months she should still be on at least one feeding a day. Most of the large parrots still need the formula for awhile, but like I said I have never owned a Too so I can't be certain I am telling you correct on this.

Also a good food for the transition from formula to weaned and is good for bonding is warm oatmeal. Especially just before she goes to sleep at night. I added blended apple & finely ground pecans to mine when I finished weaning my macaw from formula. He enjoyed the warm soft foods til he was almost a yr old. He & his brother still like oatmeal for a change in their regular foods. Bird breads you cook nutritious veggies in is very good to get her to start liking them. You can use a basic bread or cornbread recipe for this. I found a book in a book store that has many good recipes for birds.

I look forward to seeing pics of Shuga & I love her name. Oh yeah, I'm 57 with young birds. I hope to have a long time with my fiddie kids too.

Turquoise , SHUGA was fully weaned as the breeder had her on Pretty Bird and Champion...was just starting to give her green beans and a few others things..

I've started to introduce her to a few things myself and was thinking of getting a package of mixed veggies and steaming them..so as to add other kinds of veggies and also some raw broccoli and spinach...

She is so far dealing with being in her crate...and out a few hours broken up during the day and evening and now liking her bath...does a little dance but then says "ooooooh". LoL

I have to figure out how to fix the play station on top so while I'm cleaning her cage she can be on top and not getting into my hair which she loves to do. I have long hair and I have to wrap it up

Macaws are beautiful but I thought wow that's a big one. And I have visions of it flying in the house with my one little dog lol. Funny how the imagination can do tricks..

I look forward to learning and sharing my surprises with you all

Thanks

God bless
