Green cheeked conure questions?
Hello! I just got a GCC 4 days ago. He's very friendly and cuddly, and I was wondering how long does it take for a bird to get used to its new home? He has been eating great, playing a bit with his toys, and he actually has not problem with me. He lets me sit near him and have my hand on the cage (I havent tried to touch him). Yesterday I sat with him about 2 hours just with my hand on the cage talking to him and he came really close to me and started to dance? It was cute! he was talking to me too. When should i try to get him to "step up" and just basically handle him? Thanks!

He will be a year in april btw

Alot of where you go from here depends on is he handreared or not.
If he is handreared and used to being handled and approachable try offer your hand but speak very quietly and reassuringly when you do this as voice tones is very important to a parrot.
As he is eating this is the geatest indication that he has started to settled a bird will not eat if they are stressed.

If you haven't handled him, why do you say he is cuddly? Some birds only take a few days to warm to its new surroundings, while others take longer. Is the bird clipped or flighted? What does the bird do when you just open the cage door & leave it open?

A bird may seem real friendly while it is in its cage, but when you open the door & stick your hand inside, they become nervous.....if this happens with your bird, keep talking to it & give it some more time. Was the bird hand trained, stick trained or you don't know?

well i had him on my hand in the pet store and he was perfectly fine.
And they clipped his wings but once they grow back i wont cut it, i want him to be able to fly around...

and I have no idea the man who was taking care of him said he is tame. he said hes just a shy bird....

As I said before you need patience quiet talking. Remember to most birds their cage is their palace and to be protected from stange hands.
Conures are very nosey and I would let him come to you. Pretend to eat something exciting you have noticed he likes to eat. It always works with mine they do not want to miss outon anything exciting. Clipping wings can be quite scarey for a bird and suddenly they are unbalanced.
