welcome to the forum and congrats on your new feathered friend, alexs are beautiful.

tgere is no guarantee that rex will talk, each bird is an individual. best chance is to spend lots of tome talking to him and repeating what u want to teach him.

i feed my alexs a mix of fresh fruit and veg every morning and evening along with pellets.

you will find a list of foods you must not feed them in one of the forums (cant temember which). some on the no no list are
Avocado
Apple seeds
onion
garlic
mushrooms
chocolate
cafeen
alcohol

can u post a pic of yhe feathers, although we can only speculate. if you are worried u shoukd see ur avian vet.

enjoy your baby, they are such characters

Cute! The head feathers look normal, he's still a baby, Nimbus has only just finished filling out her head feathers and she's just over 5 months old. That's exactly what her feathers looked like 2 weeks ago.

Welcome to the forum! Hope you have a wonderful time here! :)

What an adorable baby! Her (looks like a female so far, is s/he DNA tested?) feathers looks pretty normal, she might be just molting. If you think something is wrong, then go to see your avian vet. Has your baby had her check up already? It is recommend that you take your parrot to your avian vet at lease once a year, to prevent health problems. It is very hard to tell if a parrot is sick or not. Parrot will hide their illness because in the wild, weak parrot will most likely to be chosen as prey.

Fresh fruit and veggies is a must! And change every 1-2 hours to prevent it going bad. I feed Ozzie fruit, veggies, grains, sometimes meat, and of cause, pellet. It will be much better if you feed Rex a pelleted diet. I recommend Harrison's pellet, it's all organic and free of artificial stuff.

Here is a link to healthy food for your alexandrine - I know it's from a cockatiel website, but it works for every parrot.

Cockatiels, Healthy and Nutritious Safe Foods, Safe Fruits, Safe Fruits, Safe Vegetables, Safe Table foods for Cockatiels and Pet Birds. List of Safe Foods, Safe Fruits and Vegetables for Cockatiels and Pet Birds. What foods are safe to feed cockatie

Now there's not guarantee that Rex will talk, but just keep trying and repeat words every now and then. Say it in a exciting voice, I've find parrot will more likely to talk if you are all excited. Alexandrines are among the best talking species.

Oh, I'm saying its a she so far because it doesn't have a ring around its neck and from the colour. But its still very young, so it might turn out to be a male. If you want to be sure, you can take Rex to the vet for a DNA test to be 100% sure :)
