Hi i have an female orange winged amazon parrot and a male budgie, they have been in the same cage since 2 days after a purchased the amazon about 2 weeks ago!!, the budgie seems to be crazy on the parrot, pruning its crown and exchanging food, kissing. Can a Budgie and amazon mate??

The size difference along with being different species will prevent them from mating. It's not to say that your budgie won't try though! He probably won't get any encouragement from the amazon however!

Welcome to the forum. As said they can't produce viable eggs, but at some point your budgie could be in serious danger if he continues to reside in the same cage. They really both need their own cage, it is just safer for both birds.

I agree, they each need their own cage. A amazon could kill a budgie with just play, imagine if it suddenly lashes out. It's natural for birds to do so, and when it's another bird of the same species little harm is done unless one bird is out to kill.

I agree with seperating them. Since the 'zon tolerates the budgie, they may get along well, but, if anything spooks the 'zon, the budgie could wind up dead. I'd let them be together "socially", but, only under supervision. A while back, a friend lost a budgie when it's Mini Macaw buddy killed it suddenly. We all cautioned him against putting them together, but, he said they liked each other, as you have. Interspecies bonding certainly does happen, but, works best when they are evenly matched in size & temperment.

I agree, with having budgies myself they LOVE to make fun or play with other birds. While a budgie might play with an amazon, the zon might do a friendly nip, which would be fatal.
