Hello everyone. My name is Becca and I live in Texas with my husband (married last week!), and my many pets. I am not new to birds but I am new to ParrotForums. I spent many years working with a CAG breeder and have lots of experience hand-raising baby birds, and I have also worked a lot in rescue and as a bird caregiver at a local sanctuary for exotic and wild birds. I am currently a Certified Vet Assistant at a clinic that sees exotics and I really enjoy my job!
My current birds are Fred, a 12 year old male SI Ekkie. He is banded from California but I took him in as a rescue and I have not been able to track down his breeder to find out his exact hatch date. I also have Rosie, a 6 year old female SI Ekkie. She was originally from Solely Solomon's here in Texas and her previous owner abandoned her due to some neurological issues. I also have a great dane, two cairn terriers, two bird-friendly house-cats, two ferrets, and a prairie dog.
Sometime next week I am taking in three parrots from one of my clients who is unable to continue caring for them. All three are males. One is a Red-lored Amazon (a species I have had before), a Derbyan Parakeet, and a Cherry-Head Conure. My main goal by joining today is to hear from people who hopefully have experience with Cherry-Head and Derbyan Parakeets. Neither of these is a species I have had experience with directly and since this is an ASAP situation I don't have the luxury of taking the time to do my research!
Nice to meet you all!
-Becca
P.s. About my setup! I live in a three bedroom house and my birds have their own room with their UVA/UVB lighting. I also have a huge manzanita playstand in my kitchen and a modest outdoor aviary for my feather-babies to spend time in when the weather is good and I can watch them.
