Hi everyone i have just got a 22 yr old red lored amerzon call petal its my first parrot do i tho joyin something like this would be good for my and petal lol shes In a bit of a pickel at the mo as she was with her last mummy for just over 22 yrs but the lady has become very ill and to old to look after anymore. So as u can imagen shes not very happy at the mo :-( she has quite an over grown beak and her claws could do with a trim and she dosnt like toys she has one little one in her cage but the lady said she has never seen her touch it :-( so any advice and tips to help her settle in will be gratly welcome xx :green1:

Hello fay, and welcome to the forum (along with Petal) :)

My first suggestion would be to have Petal seen and checked by an Avian Vet. At 22, she's still a young lady. :) The vet would be able to trim her nails for you, shape the beak, and hopefully find out WHAT caused the beak to overgrow in the first place.

What type of cage is Petal in? Does she have different perches? As for playing with toys, she may not be used to having things to play with, so you can start with smallish things that may interest her. :)

What type of food is Petal eating?

The more information you give us, the more we'll be able to guide you in the right direction.

welcome to the forum! I would say have Petals beak trimmed at the vet and get her a checkup and put more toys in her cage with only one she may just not like it.

Hello Fey and welcome to the forum,

As JerseyWendy stated, the more info the more help you can receive. Please get her to an Avian Vet ASAP to fun tests and get the beak and nails trimmed. The beak overgrowth could be due to nutritional problems or simply from not working the beak on enough chewing toys. Better safe than sorry.

Sounds like a diet change is in order as well as a vet check up. Fecal and blood work would be required.

Amazons are prone to vitamin A deficiency which can lead to sinus problems as well as obesity which can lead to liver failure... so I agree with what's being said - go to the vet! Sooner rather than later!
