hello, my name is dave and I am a fairly ne to all this bird stuff. My wife that I loved was a huge bird fan, and I supported her hobby of caring for interesting birds. But I tended to leave all the "bird" stuff to her. They were her "babies" after all. But one day she decided to walk out on me and neve come back...But she left me with about half the birds...the ones I actually enjoy. But I know very little about them. I have been caring for them for a few months now on my own...and it's gotten lonely with out someone/people that I can share stuff with about them. So I joined here...:)

So I have three birds now...

A male eclectus named Darwin, he's about a year old now I think. (SOOOO cute too) I have one sun conure named Mango that was my FIRST parrot purchase...(the true first was free). And caged with the sun conure is a conure of unknown type...It's got a grey silver head...and greenish body with red wings...(I'll have to get a pic and maybe someone can ID it for me).

Mainly I hope that people here can help me to keep them well fed and also give me pointers on how to "better" care for them.

I just wanted to introduce myself...and I'll try to post pics ASAP.

Welcome to the forums Dave. Sounds like you have three wonderful companions there. A picture will help, but the first thought that comes to mind for that conure is that it may be a black capped conure - plenty of pics will come up on a google image search for that, you could see if that may be what he is.

There are a number of discussions on nutrition and care for our birds to check out - but don't hesitate to ask about anything that comes up.

Hi Dave,
Welcome to the forum. I am new to this forum and look forward to contributing and learning from others. I am owned by two eclectus and what you will find in your research is that eclectus need higher vitamin A than other birds and their diet should be mostly veggies and fruits with a high quality pellet as supplement but the emphasis is on the veggies and fruits.

Every morning I give my birdies a mixture of veggies - I make up a patch and put it in the freezer because cutting veggies every day is a pain in the rear end. My standard mixture (that I keep in the freezer ready for each portioning) is in 1 cup frozen corn, 1 cup frozen petite peas (both organic if possible) then I add 1 cup diced fresh broccoli, 1 cup fresh diced carrots and 1 cup cooked brown rice to the frozen mixture. Then in the morning I add some fresh diced apple to the mixture that I portion out (I generally give them about 3/4 c of mixture). Of course we give lots of fruits too.

Have fun and see you on the boards.

Hi Dave I am pretty new at myself. I just finished reading a book called Parrots for Dummies and it is fantastic!! I have learned so much from reading and this was the best by far. I bought it on Amazon (no pun intended) used. Good luck.
