I love green cheeks, they are such sweet birds

I recently purchased a Green Cheek Conour. He was hand fed and is 11 months old. I have had him about 6 weeks. He is not tame and I need advise on how to train him and how to get him him to trust me. He will come out of cage and will step up on perch..that is about all. Has anyone tried any Bird training cd's?

It would really help to start working with him right away. Do not be afraid to handle him one bit. Take him to sit with you on the couch. Set some napkins nearby in case he poops. Cut up a few grapes, some apple, offer some paper to chew on, make up little games to play. They have to whittle wood. Just love it. The Kabobs are a huge hit with my guys. They usually run about 5$ or you can use old wood from trees in your yard, but you have to know which are safe to use.

I order Apple chew sticks, you can find them online they come in a pink box, excellent product. Mine just love them!

My GCC came from a pet store and picked me out of everyone in that store. Then a thunder storm came, that kept me in the store, and I had to take her. I'm so Happy that I did! What a great species of bird! She eats almost anything I offer her, from grilled cheese to eggs, and loves her seeds and her pellets. She loves hanging out on top of her cage which has a play gym on top. She defends area's of that with her life, lol. She will puff up and spit at you that is HER area! She is very active and enjoys her toys. Mirrors with Bells, Toys with Bells, whatever, they like bells. They also really do like to hang out with their owner. Mine is molting right now and she has new pin feathers all over and they are painful so she is grouchy.....She talked quickly, in less than a month. She whistles and says Hi Little Baby! Little Baby! And, if she hears us talking about her, she will then say Little Baby GIl Da! Gil Da!
It's amazing how intelligent she is! Well, she poops on demand now. I put down a piece of newspaper, and after about 5 minutes I will put her over it, tell her "poop please" and after about ten times she did, then lots of praise.
After that, she does it, they usually have to go every 15 minutes or so anyway, and the body language is always there.

So work with your baby. Find out that special thing she really likes, food, a whittling toy, or just torn up paper. Then sit with her for at least an hour a day, and really bond with your baby. Talk to her a LOT. Say her name often and tell her when you are leaving the room, be animated, "be right back baby" things like that.....Mine do contact calls. If I leave the room they both do a call, they want me to answer, because they cannot see me. So I always answer, I'm in here babies.....
