Peachfaced Lovedbird - Skittlez
I am newly registered here. I used to have 2 cockatiels whom I was allowed to handfeed myself once meeting the hobbyist that I got them from. I also aquired 2 that were cagebound and terrified of people (we suspected abuse) so I took them rehab'd and rehomed them because 4 birds and 4 kids in our tiny place wasnt good for anyone for long. I had gotten interested in birds as pets only after rescuing 6 ducklings that the nieghbor hit the mother duck and left them orphaned. After releasing the ducks I missed my feathered companions and got my first set of tiels. The end of last year me and my 2 girls went homeless (yeah thats what you get for raising someone elses kids for 5 years.. once the exwife gets the kids back you get booted out the door) anyways we stayed between a friends house and my car for a few months before getting back on my feet so I had to give the birds away .
Through my church group I got a job as a caregiver for an alzhiemers patient since I had experince taking care of my bedridden mother for the last 6 years of her life. They also encouraged to attend classes and just yesterday I passed the state exam and am now a CNA:D! Now that I not only have a job but a career to provide stability I am looking forward to getting another bird within the next couple months. Just 1 I dont want a set. I would love another Female cockatiel that I can handfeed or that has been handfed but cant find any breeders in my area .. so I am open for suggestions on a cuddly somewhat quiet (apartment living) type of parrot that would be happy with 3 sets of toys rotated on a weekly basis and 4 hours a day of playtime out of the cage.
I entitled this posting Hello my name is regret.. one becuase I am listening the Mr West lol and 2 because of everything we lost, gave away, threw away...ect while homeless giving my birds to new owners was what I most regret putting me and my girls thru. No one cried about the garbage man taking the beds or couch (no way was I letting my x take it!) no one reminices about the jewlery or knick knacks we lost, or even thinks twice about the food and clothes we gave to the church cuz we didnt have the storage. The only lasting mark on our hearts is missing our birds (well ok driving by the place we slept in the car the nights we had to doesnt bring good feelings either to be honest lol)

Well Mr. West, welcome to the forums.....glad you decided to join us.....

Although I don't have any cockatiel contacts in the FL panhandle, there are several forum members who work with FL rescues and members who live in FL may know of a good breeder or two in your area.....

Good luck.....

Welcome to the forum. And congrats on all your accomplishment. It must have been so hard to go through what you went through. I wish you luck in your new journey and hope you find the perfect bird.

Welcome to the forum. :)

WOW - you've certainly been through a whole lot! I'm so sorry! And many congrats on your newly received CNA!!! GREAT accomplishment! :D

Seeing that you are in FL, there should be a whole lot of breeders and/or rescues to choose from.

I wish you continued luck on your journey, and I certainly hope the right bird will fly into your lap when the time is right. :)

One silly Pionus named Zephyr!
Congrats on getting your life back, first of all!!

If you're interested in the perfect apartment bird, of course I have to recommend Pionus! They are known for being pretty quiet. My own, Zeph, only gets noisy when he's scared somewhere unfamiliar (alarm screaming), or when he meets new people (happy chattering and little robot noises). They aren't always the most cuddly of parrots, but mine loves to sit on my shoulder or the back of the couch, or his perch on the coffee table. He's happy to just watch tv with us and get the occasional head scratching!!
