Baby Lorikeet ~ Petrie
And 2 Lovebirds
As some of you already know, i found a baby Lorikeet yesterday and have been caring for him. I was researching pictures last night of other baby lorries, and he looks about 5 - 6 weeks old. But i'm not 100% sure so i'll post a picture soon
I've been feeding him honey from my finger, and water from a syringe. I still haven't seen him eat or drink by himself yet (and i've had him for about a day now). He just woke up and i was wondering what else to feed him besides honey. I have a muesli mix with sunflower seeds in it?? But i've been told to feed him a nectar mix from the shops and i can't go into town until later on today. I just wanted something else to feed him besides honey, in case he's getting sick of it already :p
I'm still unsure if i should release him this morning, because it's cloudy and kind of raining. He was soaking wet when i found him, so i don't want him to be in the rain by himself again!
Thanks so much to everyone that has been helping me, all your information has helped me heaps! And a big thanks to my lovely friend Tab for introducing me to this site :D :blue: I would be completely lost without you all! :)

im thinking maybe you could steam some apple or pear and blend it a runny pulp, using the water that was used to steam it and feed him some of that.

If he can't fly please don't release him he will become cat food. If you don't want to keep him google WIRES, they will usually drive up to you and pick the bird up.

Chattering Lory, 18yrs old (Sweet Pea)
If he is only 5 to 6 weeks old, he still needs to be handfed. I got our chattering lory when she was just 6 weeks old and we continued to handfeed her for another 5 to 6 weeks. The consistency of the food we fed her was like cream of wheat that is not watery, but not thick either. I wish I could remember what we mixed in with the powdered necktar... but that was 16 years ago.

Making applesauce would be good, but this lorikeet needs a balanced diet or he will suffer. As soon as you can, I would consult a lorikeet breeder and get the right food for him.
