West coaster here! I've had birds for a lot of years, going on almost 2 decades, started with my first cockatiel flying into my garage when I was 5. I've had parakeets, lots of cocktails, I got a conure (myriad? Myran? The biggest kind, I can never remember!) when I was a senior in high school but had to give him away shortly after I went to college. He had come addicted to pain meds from breaking his wing with his previous owners, and his screaming severely stressed out my male breeding cockatiel, we tried everything, including a pagan idea of charged crystals that my Mom charged every morning.
After I met my husband we got 2 zebra finches from my vet that a wildlife rescue had gotten, and no one wanted them. We went to bird shows and redid her cage every year, she lived a very posh zebra finch life for about 3 years (her partner died soon after we got them.)
We have wanted a bigger bird for awhile, but no stars had aligned right, until he was on a job and heard the neighbor's conure and inquired about the bird. Com to find out, he was a young conure, but had attacked his owner after she had been gone I'll, and the husband didn't do anything with him so they wanted to rehome him. I had already rehabbed conures for work, so I had no problem taking him on. When we picked him up, he had no toys, a parakeet automatic waterer and just plain zupreem pellets He was so oily and shaggy I didn't even want to touch him, poor baby! We got him tons of toys, perches, swings, a good bath and I've been making him all sorts of foods, fresh, cooked and the complete zupreem line (thanks to Amazon prime...!) We have started clicker training ans clipping wings is next
He's actually been screaming for 2 hours because his veggie rice + beans & greens is cooking, spoiled brat
So anyways, that my background, and I apologize for errors, I'm typing this on my kindle fire which is harder then one thinks.
