Catalina Macaw
Hello my name is Maria and I am in beautiful Orlando, Fl. My daughter and I have wanted to own a Macaw and now that we live in Orlando, Fl and have a house with lots of space our dreams came true.
We went to pick up the Catalina Macaw 2 days ago on Sunday. The Catalina Macaw was born July 5 2013 so he/she will be 10 weeks old this Friday Sept 13. The baby was very friendly with her handlers, as soon as we got home there was a little hissing but I guess I have to wait and earn her trust.
We are very excited because the DNA should be back by the end of this week.
I joined this group to learn more about the Macaws from experienced owners. We need all the information we can get.:red1:

Hi there and welcome to the forum. :)

Did the breeder teach you how to properly feed your new baby? Hand feeding macaws can be quite adventurous, as many have a strong feeding response.

The temperature must be right, the consistency and the amount given at each feeding.

Do you have a digital scale so that you can record your baby's progress and keep track of his weight?

10 weeks is very young for a macaw. Have you been taught to hand feed? Macaws and other large birds often regress back to needing hand feeds after a stressful event (such as moving homes) because they seek the comfort of the feeds.

If you are unsure about feeding, please ask, we've got a ton of breeders and people who have done rescue and rehab that are plenty knowledgeable about it.

You must be over the moon with your new baby, would love to see some pictures of him/her! :)
