Hello all.

I thought I would say hi and tell you all a bit about myself.
I am a semi retired machinist and apartment dweller and have been around birds of all kinds and sizes for many years.
I have had a few smaller birds in my days but am going to go for it and graduate to a larger critter. I am in the process of Parrot proofing my place in anticipation of getting a new buddy in the next few months.
I have always love the Pionus and am hoping to find a hand fed blue head baby for my first larger bird.
Any advice is appreciated.

G'day to you too, Aluminum. I thought you must be an Aussie with the G'day but saw the "Aluminum" and thought hmmmm the non-standard US spelling must have made its way downunder, but I see you're in Arizona:) Welcome.

Aha! Me too! Sucked in by the 'G'day'! Aluminum, you *must* come to Australia - there's so many parrots here, you'd be very happy about it, I just know! Welcome to the forum and can I just say that Alexandrine Parrots are very nice birds. As are Galahs.

I have spoken. ;D

Tab, do me a favour: before you move overseas, come and spend six months in sunny Newcastle. You obviously haven't stayed in the right parts of Australia to gain a good perspective! LOL!

I grew up in upstate New York and then almost 30 years in the desert is almost to much for me (But it is a dry heat). I have thought about spending a few years in Australia but I am kinda stuck here now as my parents are getting up there and I am the only one of the kids that lives close.

Since I lost my last critter a few years ago I kinda miss the company and feathers in my food! Now for the fun of setting up my place.

Hahahaha I HATE the sun and heat!!!

All summer and spring i just have the aircon on :p

Australia is wayyyyy too hot for me, and i dont like australian accents  :09:

I would prefer to live somewhere like ireland where its just always dark and rainy ;)

Where we live is ok i guess, just surrounded by mountains, so at least its peaceful!

Hello,

Queensland isn't well know for selling antifreeze or skis. Tasmania maybe ? Australia is worth a look, if you have a quick visit at least you can say you have been, and if you like it you may wish to come back for a better look. If I went to the US, I would love to visit the Grand Canyon and Yosemite NP.

Welcome Aluminum - this place is incredible for all sorts of advice! If/when you bring home your fid, make sure you tame the forum goers with pictures! We go nuts for 'em!

I adore Australia - polar opposite to you Tab, I don't want to go anywhere else! QLD is a bit of a sauna... There are some nice mountainy spots down south of the border though? ;-)

Hahaha i went to Tasmania as well, it was ok, but still not cold enough for my liking ;)

We get frost and our water troughs freeze over in winter, but i still wear shorts and shirts, just isnt cold to me!

But no matter where you are in Australia, the summer is still going to be soooo hot!

And scenery gets boring if you look at it every day :09:

I still dont understand why people want to visit Australia, its not like there is alot to do, apart from the great barrier reef, but i hate the ocean

Isn't it funny how all the Aussies went, "Must be an Australian.... Hang on, 'Aluminum' is spelt incorrectly!" I did exactly the same thing!

Calace, do you belong to the 'Lost Newcastle' group on facebook? If not, do have a look - it's for those of us of a certain age who have memories to share and old photos to upload. You might enjoy it (I do!) :)
