An update

House everyone. I joined here in August and posted about my new ducorps cockatoo. Unfortunately it just didn't work out with him, he had been previously owned by a male and his son for 5 years and hadn't been around a female ever. He wouldn't take to me or my mum at all and he seemed really unhappy, as much as I tried my best to help him settle in, it was obvious that him being in my house was causing him stress. So I made the decision to return him to where I got him from, he was then immediately re-homed with a lovely man and is doing brilliantly.

I immediately fell in love with a 13 week old salmon crested cockatoo. He has been with me ever since. He's the cutest little ball of feathers I've ever seen and is so friendly and loves to be stroked. I named him Murphy, He's part of the furniture, I can't imagine my life without him!

I thought I'd give a quick update to you all and thank you for all the posts I've read that have helped me massively!

Sorry that it didn't work out with your original bird, but it looks like it all worked out in the end. Enjoy your new baby! He's beautiful!

Re: An update

Ha, I wondered what a "salmon-crested" was too, especially as salmon is a pinkish shade. A beautiful sulphur-crested you have, Hazel & Chucky. As an aside, it's interesting to see UK/Au spellings so prevalent on this forum (sulphur, grey etc). Sulphur is the original spelling from when the bird was named, of course, and not all users have accepted the IUPAC spelling "sulfur" for the yellow element.

Re: An update

Grats on your new relationship. Murphy looks like a sweetheart. Is he a bit pink on the front or is that a trick of the light?

Salmon-crested cockatoos are a species and they are pretty awesome looking. AKA Moluccan Cockatoo. I've never seen one for real, since they are native to Indonesia.

Re: An update

I think he's a 'medium sulphur crested cockatoo' or that is what I was told by the place I got him from. The pink on his chest might of been caused by the radish we had just been playing with as I've never noticed him looking pink. He's so pleasant and cute, really happy to have found him :-)

Re: An update

Many white cockatoos have a "flush" of pink or yellow, aside from patches of actual colour. Our corella has a little orange around his face, with a yellow flush through the tail and wing feathers. I believe the Philippines variety of the sulphur-crested has a reddish tail. Or, the pink on the breast of your bird may be a trick of the light
