Hi Fellow Parrotteers!

Hi All.
I was approached by my boss 2 months ago, asking if I was interested in adopting a 5yo parrot. I'd had tiels before and always wanted a parrot, so I agreed. The reason she chose me was : she knows I adore animals, she knew I had a 17yo son and Percy (his lordship, the parrot) couldn't stand women so she was hoping he'd get on with my son.
Well, she was right (luckily) because Percy instantly took a liking to my son and the got on famously. He couldn't stand me at all but did get on pretty well with my elderly mother.
Now, the problem...I have fallen head over heels in love with this beautiful, headstrong creature!
I've scoured the net & have learned as much as can about being a good parrot mom. Whilst he was not abused or neglected at his previous home, he was not provided with all the good stuff parrots need like lots of toys, fresh veg, play time and training. I'm fixing all of that and then some! I can't get enough of him!
Percy and I have made good progress and as long as I watch for his clues and respect the cage, he doesn't bite me anymore. I've even started training with him and he can now step up for me (stepping down and especially back into the cage at bedtime is apparently not on our immediate agenda...), comes to me when I call him over in our training area, plays peekaboo (well, its still a work in progress) and just today I "high four'd" me!!
Sorry, I didn't mean to go on and on but I can't stop raving over him.

Re: Hi Fellow Parrotteers!

Sweet welcome to the fourms and grats on your new bird! Parrots are great and will bring you so much joy in life.

That's great that you are working with him so much, he must be so happy to have good parronts. "Parronts" heh heh

You'll learn lots on this fourm, it's a really cool and fun website.

What kind of parrot is he?

Good luck with him!
