eclectus cocketeil
Hi Guys,

My name is sara and i am a bird lover! I recently adopted Joey a 4 year old boy eclectus. He is pretty friendly likes to be held. doesnt mind being hugged and touched. He sometimes growls if hes eating or too high on his perch (that whole flock leader thing) - i did lower the rope bcz of that..
ANyways I also have a 5 month old eclectus boy whom I bought. My brother is taking him after a month im just holding him til then..The baby is so easy to train. already knows how to wave, and caught on quick with the clicker...

Joey my 4 year old, as fun and talkative as he is- hes hard to train.. He doesnt really like any treats I give him. He just prefers to eat out the bowl. So giving him treats for tricks doesnt really work..
The clicker/treat training is working well with my baby ekkie not joey??

Anyways.. Since im focusing on joey more (since my brother is taking the baby soon) i just need some tips in general for him...

Hes also very "in the mood lately" He regurgitates and thinks im his mate though I DISCOURAGE the behavior. I do not pet him anymore and if he regurges I just put him back on the perch. I wanted to eventually get him a mate. But I do want to get a baby girl ekkie so I can train her to be a loving companion with me and not just dependent on joey...
I just dont know how that would work as she will not be sexually mature and joey is a bit of horn dog.,, can they still "mate" and her just not be fertile... I would actually prefer that as I am not ready to be a mother of any hatching eggs!!
Any suggestions guys??
I also want joey to be a companion bird. I know he loves me but I dont want to ruin that if we eventually get him a mate... HELP?

So all in all.. I need tips on training joey, mating joey, new baby girl ekkie?..

Hope u can help

Sara

first off welcome and congrats on the bird! But I dont suggest you breed anytime soon you should do LOTS of research on breeding before you try and if you get a young girl she can still have babies it just would be very bad for her and then theres the special diet needed and raising of babies if something goes wrong its a lot to worry about so do your research first please! Also they will most likely become "wild" and untamed if they breed so there goes your companions.

Our boy Alex does the whole wrist humping/thumb feeding thing. I just put up with it now because with all the small birds out during the day, Alex only gets a play at night before bedtime. He shows no interest in other eccies, but has a companion 'tiel, Ariel, who luckily is smart enough to get out of the way when Alex is in "humping mode" but not smart enough to stay out of the way of the beak, so he has a pathetic crest at the moment:) Actually, Ariel also has a limp too, but we don't know who inflicted that.
