hello im a newbe

Hello all im new at this. A friend of mine gave me a macaw n im not sure what kind he is n she told me that he had a mate n she passed away n ever since then he doesnt talk so what can i do to get him to talk again. So any advice anyone can give i will listen.

You mind posting a picture? It don't sound like a macaw to me.....a ringneck perhaps???

Based in your photo, its an Indian Ringneck Parakeet, or an Alexadrine. Neither are macaws, but both are VERY cute and VERY sweet.

He'll talk once he's comfortable. Just give him some time


Edit ;; after reading your description, sounds like an Alexadrine. Indian ringneck parakeets have the same coloration, but a lot less pink, and not as thick as a band. A full body, larger pic would be great though

Going by your description in your bird bio, it should be a Mustache Parakeet.

No, it shouldn't.

First off, there isn't pink around the back of its neck, it has black on its Nare, and its not a green bird (well it is, but its not just a solid green bird, like the one in the OPs avvie, and I'd imagine would mention a different colored breast)

Yet, and indian ringneck is a green bird with a black ring, and pink. But not as much as an alexadrine.

And this is why I think it's an Alex. Thick prominent black line, like the ops avvie, and has a thick, solid pink ring on the back of its neck




That, and an alexadrine is a large bird, and would be fairly easy for a newbie to mistake as a macaw, more so than a mustache or IRN parakeet. OP- does your bird have red on its wings? If yes, it's an alexadrine parakeet. If no, it's an Indian ringneck parakeet. It's possible it's a hybrid as well

I forgot about the ringneck with the pink outside ring. Duh! LoL....
