My 28 year old yellow nape has developed really picky eating habits. I'm not sure if she is now getting the proper nutrition. Last year she had a problem with egg binding, and had surgery to remove an adhered egg. When she recovered, she started being super picky about what she would eat, and refuses to eat anything else. Every morning I make sure she has fresh vegetables and fruit in her fruit dish...it usually consists of slightly cooked green beans, broccoli, or yellow quash...sometimes she eats it most times not. as for fruit she gets fresh cherries, grapes and apple or pear. She wants but doesn't always get a piece of celery or cucumber, which has no food value. In her food dish she gets a seed mixture many seeds no sunflower plus a couple of fruit flavored nutraberries, and a handful of pellets. She'll eat the hemp and safflower, but ignores all the rest. I have made the little seed muffins for her....she eats the worst part and leaves the rest. Once week I give into her and let her have a very small section of cooked corn on the cob. She likes flavored yogurt....not good for her, and cooked pasta...also not good for her. Just recently I've discovered that she loves cooked oatmeal so I have been making a spoonful of it for her every morning, adding chopped apple, cranberries and walnuts with a small amount of powdered vitamins and calcium powder mixed in. My question is..........What more can I do, and is this diet satisfactory? and if not what do you do with a stubborn parrot. She is sleek and healthy....is allowed out of the cage a lot during the day, and her droppings appear normal. Am I worrying for nothing? She seems to eat so little.:greenyellow:
