hey guys!

I'm Sophie and I have 2 gorgeous budgies called Bliss and Michael. Been thinking about getting a Senegal parrot some time in the future but have alot of questions and would be grateful for any advice . I will post another email asking afew specific questions soon but for now if you can think of any advice you could give to a newbie like me it would be much apreciated .

thanks again! -sophie123

Oh by the way I'm really bad with technology so if anyone could tell me how to send more emails that would be great

Re: hey guys!

Hello Sophie and welcome! I do not have a Sennie, so can't help with that, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum!

Re: hey guys!

I could be biased, but I think sennies are awesome and I highly recommend them! :-)

Re: hey guys!

Thanks alot I'll keep that in mind if i do decide to buy one . I've heard that they can be quite noisy/messy birds sometimes- are they that bad?

Re: hey guys!

All poicephalus are known as being quieter. Sammie, my sennie, is very quiet. Parrots in general are messy, but I wouldn't say sennies are any more messy than any other parrot and due to their small size they aren't as messy as some of the larger parrots.

Re: hey guys!

Thanks guys that's really helped settle my mind I was worried that they wouldn't be the right bird for me which is a shame because I've always found them beautiful birds and I kinda had my heart set on them

Re: hey guys!

If you have the chance I highly recommend you visit a store/breeder/rescue so you get a chance to visit different birds.

Re: hey guys!

of course i'll definately do that ive heard stories of birds from pet shops becoming ill or agressive after being bought, and plus if from a breeder then you can ask questions and see they birds personalities which brings me to another question, should i get a baby or an adult? or does it matter? sorry to bombarde you with all these questions

Re: hey guys!

I'd definitely go with a breeder if you can, but there's nothing wrong with a reputable bird shop, but you will pay more there.

The advantage of getting an adult is you know exactly what you're getting if they're past the teen hormone stage. On the other hand it may take a little bit for them to warm up to you.
