Hi there!
I'm Sammy, I'm 22 and live in Canada. I work as a Petcare associate working with birds, small animals, reptiles and fish. In the past few years I have slowly turned my house into "The Reptile Room" (from the series of unfortunate events...) as my family likes to call it. All of the scaley friends I was bringing home were adoptions or rescues from the petstore or from customers I was dealing with. I am the perfect home for the "imperfect".
Anyways, the scales turned into scales with a bit of fur when I brought home a hamster with a gluten allergy, Harrison. He's cute. Then we became slightly feathery when I brought home a zebra finch with a hole in her beak, Zelda. Zelda of course needed a friend so I brought home Link. They're pretty fun, I like the little peeps they make, and they seem to enjoy making babies for me....
Next to be considered was this sweet baby cinnamon conure that had come into our store. He was SO sassy and mean and didn't like anyone. For some reason he fell in love with me. Over the next few months his love for me grew and I started to love him back. I noticed an issue with swelling in his feet as well as some oddly clipped feathers. The bond between this bird and I had now become so strong I had decided he needed to come home with me. But I needed to know if there was any longterm health concerns because of the feet and wings. We took the little guy to see a vet (a great one) who told us he lacked vitamin a. Easy fix. He also informed me that whoever had cut his wings had basically stripped them and he may never grow in his flight feathers. That BROKE my heart.
The next day the conure went up for adoption. The same day the conure came home with me. His name is Skittles. Everyone in my house has fallen in love with him and he has come out of his mean shell and loves everyone! Still would rather have me over everyone else but I'm fine with that. He is so spoiled
Sorry for the long introduction :21:
