I am excited to have found this forum... I have been away from birds for the last 20 yrs (choice made when I joined the Air Force:42, and with my pending retirment in 3 wks(15 July!!) I have decided to rejoin the bird world.

I found an Awesome Goffins Cockatoo, "Squiggy"!! She is 10, 1 owner prior to us, and is a Beautiful and loving girl!! She picked us straight away, when we went to meet her, and is the most cuddly bird I've ever seen!!

I will have plenty of questions to come, as I have forgotten most of what I knew in the past.
I had parakeets and finches while on Okinawa, Japan as a kid and worked with the Tucson Avian Society, and local Tucson breeders while we lived at Davis Monthan, AFB(1989-1992?) I was a young teen at the time, but had a blast learning all about various species, and going to elementary schools and nursing homes and sharing the birds and teaching the kids... It was a great time in my life... I hope to regain some of that joy now!!

Thank you ALL for the welcome and Especially the appreciation for service:42:. It is my Honor to serve, and I am glad I had the opportunity. PLease remember there are plenty still in harms way and fighting daily, no matter what the 24/7 "news" channels tell you...

I attempted to get a couple pics of Squiggy yesterday, and this is the best I could do... She doesn't sit still, very often, and is Very curious about the camera...
Anyway.... I give you Squiggy!

Then I got her away from the swing... this was the best out of 6 shots here!

The day we brought her home! Just letting her get settled.

Yeah, Well, I am not finished working yet.... That was just my 1st career, and I have started my 2nd already! Blessed to have a home office, but also endure a couple travel days each week... The family has to be down with whatever lives here, and None of them have had birds before... I gotta start slow, then will slip a few more in(shhhh.....) :54:

I've already had visions of an outdoor aviary on our back deck!
